Game of Thrones prequel more likely that spinoff series
'It’s such a big property we would be foolish not to explore it'

With two more seasons to go, Game of Thrones is gearing to an end - however HBO bosses are clearly attempting to figure out in which way they can continue the property.
Although showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have remained coy on the subject in the past, representatives for the premium cable network previously confirmed that a spin-off looks extremely likely - although programming president Casey Bloys believes a prequel is probably the best way forward.
“It’s such a big property we would be foolish not to explore it, but it’s a pretty high bar," he admitted. "We’ll take some shots at it. I’m not going to do it just to do it. It has to feel very special. I would rather have no sequel and leave it as-is then have something we rushed out.”
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the remaining 13 episodes were to be split across two seasons with the next batch of episodes - season seven - arriving later than usual in the summer of 2017; the swansong of cult series The Leftovers will air in its usual place.
