After a tumultuous year, everything has been quiet with Alberto El Patron and Paige off-screen. Even the reveal that they’re no longer a couple happened quietly, via the Raw Superstar’s Snapchat.
It shouldn’t be noteworthy that Impact Wrestling’s El Patron had nice, professional things to say about Paige’s return to WWE television. But their relationship was such a constant source of chaos and headlines, it’s kind of shocking how peacefully they’ve gone their separate ways.
Whether we’re right to be surprised or not, we were kind of caught off guard by Alberto’s pleasant comments about his ex on a conference call today:
“It's fantastic, it was just about time. I used to say this all the time, people forget that she had neck surgery, screws behind her neck. That's the reason why she was out of the business and it takes time to recover from something like that and then she started working really hard for her big comeback, and now she's there.
She's doing what she has been doing since the beginning of her career in WWE. She's killing it, she's doing a fantastic job. I said it before and I'll say it again, she has all the potential to be the most successful Diva of all time. We have to give her time.”
He didn’t even make any cracks about Triple H’s nose!
El Patron did comment on how his life has changed since the incident with Paige at Orlando International Airport which led to his being suspended by Impact and stripped of their World title. And while her name doesn’t come up, but the timeframe does line-up such that it’s hard to not take this as a comment on their relationship:
“Personally, I'm back to where my life was before with zero drama, zero nothing. I've been saying this from the beginning, just look at my life before this past year, it was how it is right now, just about work and family.
A family man, working all the time, no drama, no nothing. And now I'm back to where I was, and I'm gonna continue to do it. Working hard and making my family happy, and making the wrestling fans and my company Impact Wrestling happy until I decide to quit or leave the business one day.”
At least we’re not the only ones who noticed the difference.
