Verna banned by the CBFC pending further appeal

Verna banned by the CBFC pending further appeal

CBFC Chairman Mubashar Hassan told Images that the filmmakers have 15 days to file an appeal
Updated 14 Nov, 2017

Amidst speculations of a ban on Verna by the Islamabad Central Board of Film Censors, Images can now confirm that Shoaib Mansoor's film has in fact been banned by the Censor Board.

"We are looking into the 'unanimous objections' raised by a panel of CBFC on Verna after the preview under the relevant laws," Chairman CBFC Mobashir Hasan told Images.

It is not yet certain why the Mahira Khan-starrer has been banned, however, the filmmakers have a chance of turning their fate around - if they issue an appeal in time.

The Chairman added, "The Board will review the decision if the producer files an appeal against the decision of the panel. If [there is no' appeal from the producer then the decision of the panel will be final and implemented."

Hasan expanded that the team of Verna has 15 days to file an appeal, otherwise the Board's decision will be final.

According to Shoaib Mansoor's official press statement issued earlier today, the director has appealed to the CBFC "for the urgent relief of Verna."

Images has reached out to Shoaib Mansoor regarding the ban and is awaiting a response.

Pakistan is increasingly becoming a police state. Our society is becoming intolerant as it sees everything in the world as an insult to "Pakistani Culture & Society". Pakistan needs to grow up instead of banning films which reflect issues that exist in the country. Stupid decision by censor board.

This seems very childish and ridiculous as the board only wants the producer to appeal, what is this strategy??

We watch too much objectionable content in every day life with family but when some one wants to show the reality with on sensitive topic its been banned. Double standard.

No reason for ban given? Only 'unanimous decision'. Give the reason for the ban. Or is a woman with a fighting spirit reason enough to ban it?

The censor board is too political. Let the people be the judge of the movies.

So wait , while plunder, pillage , nepotism, rape , indecency can continue in the country in real life, you can't discuss such truths about society in a movie , ?? Lovely, let's watch some saas/bahoo dramas then,

Mubashir Hasan might do everyone a favour by retiring. This entire board needs to go home.

In future before making any films, the story line first should be shared with Censor board(CBFC) before its shared with Artists ...atlest this way they will be sure it will not have objections and producers loosing million of rupees and time wasted.....

Although banning the film is uncalled for In my opinion I would say that portraying only the negative aspects of the society will only make people numb and hopeless. This is the third consecutive time Shoaib Mansoor has been making film on similar subjects. Such a film making approach will only make people pessimistic and hopeless. There is a dire need to instill positivity optimism and hope in our youth today more than ever.
