By Brian Bayless on 6th December 2017
October 15 , 1990
Your hosts are Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon
Tonight’s featured match is Big Bossman vs. Haku
Battle Kat defeats Bob Bradley in a match first shown on the 10/14 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
WWF Update from 10/13 “Superstars of Wrestling” focusing on Jake Roberts getting sprayed in the face by Rick Martel’s Arrogance from the “Brother Love Show.”
Demolition defeat Scott Colton & Brad Kramer & Earl Dennis in a match first shown on the 10/13 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling.”
“Pistol” Pez Whatley vs. Shane Douglas
This match would also air on the 10/20 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling.” Whatley takes Douglas down with a dropkick after some back-and-forth action. The announcers put over Douglas’ record heading into the WWF then we hear from Douglas himself in an insert promo saying he is here to earn respect from all of the wrestlers in the WWF. Whatley blocks a reverse rollup but turns around and Douglas takes him over with a hurricarana for the win (1:39).
Thoughts: Douglas gets the win and what appears to be a lower card push as a white-meat babyface.
Okerlund interviews Big Bossman from the 10/14 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
The Barbarian defeats Kent Carlson in a match first shown on the 10/13 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling.”
Sean Mooney is in the Event Center. We hear from Tugboat as he tells us about the first time wrestling in front of his family, who were very proud. That was touching. Next, Sgt. Slaugther is with General Adnan as they talk about not being here to make any friends.
An ad for Survivor Series airs.
“Rugged” Ronnie Garvin vs. Black Bart
These two fight over a lockup to start. Garvin takes Bart down with a headbutt then gets a two count with a jackknife. Garvin knocks Bart outside then stretches him out when he returns. Bart rakes the back but Garvin reverses an arm wringer and takes Bart down. Garvin fires away until Bart cuts him off with an eye rake. Bart runs over Garvin then brags after blocking a reverse rollup as Garvin school-boys him for the win (4:26) 1/4*.
Thoughts: This sucked. Garvin would leave in a few weeks Bart would at the beginning of the new year. Neither guy had anything to offer at this point in their careers.
Survivor Series Report airs.
Paul Diamond vs. Marty Jannetty
Jannetty takes Diamond down with a monkey flip. He follows with a pair of arm drags as Diamond retreats to the corner. Diamond shoves Jannetty down then runs away after he performed a kip-up as Jannetty chases him around the ring. Jannetty stays in control until Diamond sidesteps a charge and tosses him outside. Diamond rams Jannetty into the turnbuckle then tries it again but its blocked. Jannetty gets two with a crossbody but Diamond hammers away. Diamond ducks his head for a backdrop but gets hit with a facecrusher then we get a reversal sequence ending with Jannetty hitting several turnbuckle smashes in the corner. Diamond catches Jannetty with a clothesline and heads up top but gets cutoff then Jannetty hits a superplex and goes back up to for the flying fist drop and the win (5:10) *1/2.
Thoughts: Another singles win for Jannetty as they are having him fill time until his partner Shawn Michaels is ready to return from injury. And that will be happening very soon.
Brother Love Show from the 10/13 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling.”
“Ravishing” Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Jim Evans
This match also aired on the 10/21 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.” Rude beats on Evans but ducks his head as Evans fires away. Rude knocks Evans down as we hear an insert promo from some random mother who thinks Rude’s comments about Bossman’s mother are disgusting. Rude then hits Evans with a backbreaker before the Rude Awakening gets the win (1:06). After the match, Rude said he would give a Rude Awakening to a woman as long as she isn’t a fat, cellulite-ridden pig like Bossman’s mom as a girl comes to the ring.
Thoughts: An easy win for Rude as we get even more jokes about Bossman’s mom. Sure, this feud was amusing at first but it is really getting played out now.
The announcers make bad egg puns regarding the giant egg that will hatch at the Survivor Series.
Back in the studio, Heenan accuses WWF President Jack Tunney of protecting and coddling the champions.
Alan Reynolds & Randy Jackson vs. The Hart Foundation
This match also aired on the 10/21 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.” Bret gives his glasses to a kid in the front row. Lord Alfred puts over Jackson as someone who “comes across well” in his matches as the Hart Foundation work him over. We hear from Rhythm & Blues with Jimmy Hart in an insert promo saying they will win the titles as The Hart Foundation hit Reynolds with a Hart Attack for the win (2:11).
Thoughts: Some more hype for the eventual Rhythm & Blues Tag Team Title shot.
We get an ad to get tickets for WrestleMania VII.
Legion of Doom vs. Brian Costello & James Saxton
This match would also air on the 10/20 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling.” The LoD beat their opponents down and stay in control. We hear from Demolition in an insert promo as they tell LoD to watch over their shoulder because they are going coming for them. The LoD continue to destroy Saxton then put him out of his misery with the Doomsday Device (1:54).
Thoughts: More of the same LoD vs. Demolition hype we’ve been getting since LoD made their WWF debut.
Red Tyler & Reno Riggins vs. The Orient Express w/ Mr. Fuji
Another match from this show that would air on the 10/21/ edition of “Wrestling Challenge.” The Express beat on Riggins to start. Tyler tags in and does not fare any better as we hear from The Bushwhackers in an insert promo as they do not care about the Japanese being good “technicians” because they are always ready. The Express stay in control then Sato destroys Tyler with a sit-out powerbomb (2:47).
Thoughts: The Bushwhackers vs. Orient Express feud continues with the theme of disciplined vs. undisciplined.
Back in the studio, Heenan tells us about a Survivor Series match of Sgt. Slaugther & Akeem & The Orient Express vs. Nikolai Volkoff & The Bushwhackers & Tito Santana then rags on the face team. Odd they would announce a match here before they did on the syndicated shows.
Mooney is in the Event Center. Rhythm & Blues is with Jimmy Hart and say they are the greatest tag team of all-time. The Texas Tornado talks about being a fighting champion.
Haku vs. Big Bossman
Before the match, Heenan gets on the interview platform and distracts Bossman by asking if he brought his mother tonight. Haku attacks Bossman from behind then Heenan heads down to the ring. Heenan slaps Bossman behind the ref’s back but Bossman swipes at him as Heenan retreats. Bossman boots down Haku now then hits mounted punches before yelling at Heenan, who ran all the way back to the platform. Bossman hits some headbutts but misses a corner splash as Haku takes control with a nerve hold. Bossman comes back with an enziguiri then catches Haku with a sidewalk slam for the win (5:43) *. After the match, Heenan yells “hey stupid” then flees as Bossman celebrates.
Thoughts: The action was really weak but the main point of this was to continue the Bossman vs. Rude & Heenan feud as Bossman beat the lowest man on the Heenan Family Totem Pole here before getting to Rude.
Back in the studio, Heenan said Rude was not around for the Bossman. Heenan also says he will continue to rag on Bossman, who is as “dumb as his mother.”
The show closes with Gorilla teasing Heenan that Bossman will be on the set as Heenan says he will not be here then and goes into more jokes about Bossman’s mother.
Final Thoughts: We casually found out about another match added to the Survivor Series PPV buy beyond that this show was forgettable. There was not any good matches to speak of as the company continues to struggle.
