We've had to endure an entire year without a full series of Doctor Who

But now we've had the Christmas special to whet our whistles it's time to start looking ahead to series 10.

This is what we know so far.

When's it on?

We've got no definite air date as of yet but it's going to be spring.

Hurry up, please!

Who's in it?

Peter Capaldi is back as the Time Lord, of course, and he's joined by a brand new chum - Bill - played by Pearl Mackie.

Mackie said of her new role: "Reading the script at the audition I thought Bill was wicked. Fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in - I can't wait to bring her to life, and to see how she develops through the series."

Returning to the show is Matt Lucas as Nardole, who we saw in the Christmas special.

And guest stars Ralf Little and David Suchet also have roles, which are being kept under wraps.

Missy's back!

Michelle Gomez is returning and we are super happy about that.

The mischievous Missy will be causing trouble for the Doctor again no doubt, and writer Steven Moffat has said: "Oh, of course Missy will be back! How could she not be?”

How many episodes are there?

For Moffat's final run - he's being replaced by Chris Chibnall after series 10 - there will be 12 episodes, plus a Christmas special.

Also, there will be fewer two-parters.

Monsters?

BBC One today announced Pearl Mackie will join the Doctor Who cast as The DoctorÕs new companion

Daleks have already been spotted in the introduction clip for Bill, so we know that's one episode when we'll be hiding behind the sofa.

And at a special screening of the Christmas episode, Capaldi warned that there could be some creepy new monsters on the way.

He said: “I think that you should be very careful when you hear a creak, when you step on a floorboard.

“Where you hear a creak…I think you should think twice about what the creak is.”
