Shaving Tips: Use your new shaver exclusively for 3 weeks to fully enjoy the closeness of a Philips Norelco shave. At first you may not get as close a shave as you expect, or your face may even become slightly irritated. This is normal since your beard and skin will need time to adjust. Invest 3 weeks and you’ll soon experience the full joy of your new shaver. Stick with it! If you alternate shaving methods during the adjustment period, it may make it more difficult to adapt to the Philips Norelco shaving system.

This electric shaver is beautiful, it gives me super close shares, I love the sturdiness of the shaver and with my big hands, it fits comfortably. The shaves are super quick, they are unbelievably comfortable, I have not cut myself at all since I bought this electric shaver (LOVE THAT!!!). The design is great, as you press on your face, they push in a bit to not cut your face like other shavers. Usually, 1 to 2 passes are more than enough to get a nice clean shave. I honestly cannot say anything bad about this electric shaver at all. I have used it for about 2 weeks not and I consider this to be 100% money well spent. The battery life could be better, but honestly, I have only charged it a few times and still works beautifully. I can only imagine how well the higher-end electric shavers are from Norelco, sadly they are out of my price range, otherwise, I would so get the higher ends. If this lower end/entry model shaves so well, I can only imagine how comfortable the higher end ones would feel / work. I would love to try them, lol maybe when I can afford them.
Thank you for making such a great product. Your company changed my view of electric shavers. Can't wait to try the higher end models!!!
I have been using a Norelco rotary razor for several decades to shave my head.
The last Norelco I bought was in 2012. The Model was the PT730. It cost a mere $10 more than this model.
For the past 7+ years that Norelco served me wonderfully. When you think about all the daily shaves I did, that device managed to last me all those years. That's quite an accomplishment. When that rotary razor suddenly started making funny noises last week I knew it was time to replace it.
Norelco has introduced a lot of new models since 2012. I decided to buy a model that was most comparable to the one that I was putting to rest. That would be model #2100 which I am presently writing a review about.
Out of the box and in my hand I could tell there was a difference. This razor is not as heavy as the one that lasted me all those years. It also seems more cheaply made.
Norelco even skimped on accessories for this model. There's no recharging stand included here. Thankfully, this new model fits into the stand that came with my 2012 model. You do get a charging plug and a protective cap.
The battery life isn't all that great either. I think this one only gets 35 minutes. That means if you take it on a long vacation, you gotta take the charger plug with you as well.
All that being said, as soon as I charged this razor up and put it to my head, it did a terrific job of giving me a very close shave. So, despite it not being everything my older Norelco was, it still does what it's supposed to do best.
Time will tell if this Norelco lasts me another 7+ years, but if it does, it's a hell of a purchase.
Thus far....highly recommended!

There are foil shavers (that work OK) and then there are foil SHAVERS (that are amazing). :)
Let me explain the difference. There are some foil shavers that have one or two foils, and reciprocating blades underneath (e.g., the Panasonic ES3831K travel shaver, or the Remington F2). These type of shavers are made by many manufacturers. They shave pretty well, and the best of those work as well as the better rotary shavers.
Then there are the foil shavers made by the likes of Panasonic (e.g., the Panasonic ES8103S and others of the "ARC-3" type). They have two foils AND a center cutter, with teeth! The center cutting element cuts long hairs, while the blades under the foils cut the stubble. Some other manufacturers make this style of shaver as well (e.g., the Remington F5), but what's unique about the Panasonic is the speed of the blades. The better Panasonic foil shavers have blades that move at 13,000 times a minute. Really fast! A bit noisy - some liken it to a really angry mosquito, but boy do those blades mow down the hair! You can also buy "ARC-4" Panasonic shavers (three foils, and a center cutter) and ARC-5 Panasonic shavers (four foils, and one center cutter). If you notice the ratings, the ARC-4 ranks higher than the ARC-3, and the ARC-5 ranks higher than the ARC-4. The ARC-4 and ARC-5 probably work better than the ARC-3 because of the extra sets of blades coming in right next to the basic (ARC-3) set. They also cost more than the ARC-3 (ARC-3 is about $75, ARC-4 is about $120, and ARC-5 is about $200). Their replacement blade sets cost a LOT more than the sets for the ARC-3. At the time of this writing, you can get an ARC-3 replacement set for about $30, an ARC-4 replacement set for about $45, and the ARC-5 set for about $70. You should replace these sets every 18 months or so, as I know from personal experience. It matters - they are not self-sharpening, and get dull with use. Which when you talk about $200+ for an ARC-5 and another $70+ for blades every 18 months is ... insane.
I've used two different, high-speed Panasonic models over time (equivalent to the ARC-3 types), and they were really great. They cut fast and close, and they don't pull on the hair. Minimal extra passes are needed. The downside is that you need to replace the blades about every 18 months, and that will cost you somewhere around $25-$30. Pretty steep - almost half the cost of the shaver itself! But you need to do it, or else you won't get the fast, close shave you are used to having.
I tried this Norelco 2100 shaver specifically because I have an old Remington rotary electric (AC-powered) that does a surprisingly good job when I travel, and like the Remington, this Norelco 2100 is supposed to have self-sharpening blades. The Remington rotary electric is over 10 years old, and cuts pretty well. This new Norelco, well, not quite as well, but OK. It is slow - slower than the old Remington rotary electric. It requires extra passes, and it pulls hair, at least it will if you try to move quickly across you face, especially under the nose.
I got my wife a better model Norelco in this series (the 3500), that has fancier heads - large slots to capture longer hair, and small holes to cut the stubble. The blades on the 3500 do a better job than on this model, but they are NOT self-sharpening. So that was a non-starter for me, since the whole point was to avoid that $30 new blade charge every 18 months that you get with the Panasonic.
I conducted multiple "shave-off" trials between the Norelco 2100 and my old Panasonic "ARC-3" equivalent. Shaving one side of my face with one, and the other side with the other. I timed the shaving to make sure they were equal in time, until one side was as smooth as I wanted. Then I timed how long it took until the other side felt about the same as the smooth side. In the end, they both gave me about the same quality of closeness, but it took about 50% longer with the Norelco 2100 to match the quality of the Panasonic.
The bottom line is this: the Norelco 2100 shaver does work, in that it is relatively quiet, and the blades are self-sharpening. It should save you about $30 every 18 months. It does cut hair. Slowly. That is, it takes about 50% longer than a high-speed foil shaver (don't mess around with the low speed foil shavers - they take much longer to work, and don't cut nearly as close). So if you don't want to spend the extra time each morning, and you don't mind a little extra "buzzz" volume, you can buy a Panasonic foil shaver for twice as much money and get a better, quicker shave - one that's free of stubble in less time. But you are going to pay for new blades every year and a half.
Supposedly the Norelco 2100 has a risk-free trial period of 45 days. I wouldn't call it entirely risk-free, since you do have to pay for postage and insurance on the return. That ought to be about $12. So you're going to spend at least that to try it out. You are supposed to spend 21 of those 45 days with the new shaver to give it a fair chance. At 21 days, I'm still on the fence about returning the Norelco, or keeping it.
Update: I decided to give away my old Panasonic to someone that needs it, and keep the Norelco. I decided I didn't mind the extra time shaving, in return for not having to buy blades. Your mileage may differ.
Further Update: After well over a month of daily use, I'm satisfied with this shaver. Once I realized that it works very sloooowly, I started getting better results. You are NOT going to zip in there and whack off your beard with lightning speed. Instead, it's going to take a few minutes of slowly going over your face. Around and around and around. If you're used to a double-edged razor, it's about that speed. If you're used to one of the super-fast Panasonics, no. Don't even think about it. But if you're willing to spend 3-5 minutes, slowly going over your face, multiple times, you WILL get a very smooth result. It won't pull hair (it will pull if you go fast ...), and it will trim all the stubble down to nothing. And if these rotary blades really do sharpen themselves over several years, and the battery lasts that long, then this will be a pretty good deal!
Final Update: after 18 months, I've decided that this shaver is just too slow for me. I've relegated it to my travel shaving kit, and will use it on the road. But for everyday home use, I bought a Panasonic ES8103S Panasonic ES8103S Arc3 Men's Electric Shaver Wet/Dry with Nanotech Blades, 3-Blade Cordless with Flexible Pivoting Head as the best balance between performance and price. Everything I said above applies. But after so long, I hadn't realized just how nice the ARC-type shavers are. The speed is so much better than the Norelco, and the closeness with just a few passes is also better. I guess for me, saving a few dollars a year just wasn't worth the compromise on speed and closeness. One last thing. If you go more than slowly over your face, this does tend to pull the hair. So if your beard grows quickly, that can be pretty annoying.
