Story about a brother and sister from another planet who visit and reverse the ecological damage to the planet. The local ruler there is trying to track them down so that he can control their power. The art is not very good. The story is OK.

Awake vol 2 is an adorable continuation of the story of Regn and Picar. After successfully helping heal the planet Gremon the siblings are on the run from the Baron while their friends are locked up. So clearly it's time for a daring escape and final showdown with the Baron. I found the story a bit tropey and predictable but that may be because I'm not 8 years old. Even with parts being tropey and predictable I still enjoyed reading this brain candy and if there was more to the series I'd probably read that as well.

Interesting characters, creative concept, and a twist I genuinely did not see coming. A great start to the series!

Awake has many of the superior storytelling aspects that I greatly enjoyed in Avatar: The Last Airbender series: interesting worldbuilding, excellent and distinct illustrations, and a charming set of characters. While it doesn't reach the highs and lows of nuanced storytelling like Avatar did (the bad guys are kind of cliche, to be honest, here), an interesting set of protagonists make up for that lack. I hadn't read volume 1 but had no problem picking up the story from this volume 2.

Story: Picar and his sister have healed the planet but frustrated ruler Gurk in the process - with prosperity he loses his hold over the populace. He hatches a plan to catch Picar, using Picar's friend as bait. But Picar has a strong set of friends who will aid him in his mission to save his friend and stop the Gurk menace. This book mostly focuses on Pica this time and collects comics 5-8.

The main characters have some nice conflicts in personality and I enjoyed how they were written. The villains were a bit one dimensional, unfortunately, and do a lot of pontificating to minions. The action scenes were interesting but I admit I could have wished for more originality in that aspect of the story.

The illustration work continues to be clean and distinct. Expressions especially on the animals were very well done - almost Don Bluth style in their features. I had no trouble following the plot as it moved from one adventure to another.

This might be a bit too simplistic for adults but I think the target audience of middle grade or younger is perfect. It has a great appeal and it something that can be read aloud and then discussed later for the great messages inside. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

'Awake: Escape from Gremon' by Susan Beneville and Brian Hess is the second volume in the series and collects issues 5-8 of the series. I was not familiar with the series, but it's a pretty decent comic for younger readers.

In the previous stories, young Regin has healed the planet Gremon. The natural resources have healed, but not everyone is happy. The most unhappy is the ruler of the planet who was able to exploit the people due to the shortages of food and energy. Along for the ride are her brother, Picar, who seems to be a bit irresponsible. Initially, he is the target of the baron's wrath, but it's really Regin who wields the power.

There is good adventure, and some leassons to be learned along the way. The characters are humanoid and furry animal like creatures. I think middle grade readers would like this series. It was my introduction to the series and I can already think of a few young readers I would recommend it to.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Action Labs, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

The artwork was very well done - I truly wish I could see this animated as well since it does have a timeless storyline. The cuteness factor of the anthropomorphic animals make this suitable for all ages - from youngest to adult (though it might be a bit simplistic for the adult palette). In the very least, an adult can enjoy reading to toddlers and then letting older kids have their own go with the story.

There are messages here but they are minor and don't slap you in the face; action/adventure is the heart of the story. Lead character Picar is almost an antihero and his younger sister is quite feisty. Side characters who aid them are fun and the story is written to be appealing to both girls and boys. This volume 2 is about having faith in yourself and your friends.

As a nitpick, I would have liked more nuanced villains. But all the same, the crisp and clean artwork and fun storyline make for a great adventure yarn. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Original review is at The Book Portal.

4.65/5 stars
The epic story continues. The planet is yet again in danger. Our main character are struggling to survive and escape the Baron.
The art is once again great and I can say the same thing about the dialogue.
Finally, we get more in formation about the Dolla. And, more important, we get the background story which caused all the trouble on Gremon. (It felt a little short but it was alright).
If you liked the first volume, you should definitely check out volume 2.

This is my sole opinion. ^_^

I would like say thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Also, feel free to check out my review for Awake Vol 1.

While I haven't read volume 1 of this series, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this. The characters are fun, colorful and a delightful to see their adventures. Really solid book that I believe can be enjoyed by all ages.
