Gospel singer Kim Burrell has been dropped from a scheduled “Ellen” appearance with Pharrell this week after she delivered a homophobic church sermon, Janelle Monáe tells TMZ. Monáe, who will appear on the show to promote Hidden Figures, says Burrell will no longer join Pharrell to perform music from the soundtrack. Burrell attracted widespread criticism last week after describing homosexuality as “perverted”; she reiterated her position in a Facebook live video, calling homosexuality a “sin … against the nature of God.” Read Pharrell’s statement from the weekend below, via Instagram. Monáe reposted Pharrell’s statement, adding that she “unequivocally repudiate[s] ANY AND ALL hateful comments against the LGBTQ community.” Scroll down to read it in full. Since Monáe’s comments, Ellen DeGeneres has taken to Twitter to confirm Burrell’s removal: find her tweet below.
