It looks like Samsung is still pushing the smart fridge thing. The electronics giant has introduced its newest Family Hub 2.0 connected refrigerators, bringing the number of models to ten. With the new version of the software, Samsung is bringing on new app partners and better integration. "A full range" of Samsung's popular 3- and 4-door French Door models will be supported, which obviously means more choices for consumers.

Family Hub 2.0 brings a lot of flexibility into the system, offering enhanced usability and food management. Those fancy internal cameras can still add food items to your shopping list, but now images of the food will be added, too. You can then use the Groceries by Mastercard app to order everything and you are good to go. The Recipes app, which is powered by AllRecipes, will feature readouts and enlarged text for kitchen multitaskers.

Household communication is getting overhauled, with individual profiles, bulletin boards, calendars, and handwritten notes. All of the Family Hub apps will also gain voice controls for when you want to talk to your fridge about the weather, time, and latest news. That one feels a bit weird for me... I am still not used to talking to my Google Home.

Finally, Samsung has partnered with several app developers, like Grubhub, Nomiku, Glympse, Ring, Spotify, and iHeartRadio, in order to provide more choice for food delivery, home security (why), and entertainment. The press release also mentions that the Family Hub software will be coming to ovens, stoves, and range hoods. All of these appliances will communicate locally via Bluetooth and users can access their functions via Wi-Fi.
