Twitch is home to two Google Home devices debating the existence of God

So... singularity?

Two Google Home assistants are engaging in heavy conversation.

Simone de Rochefort has been producing & hosting YouTube videos for Polygon since 2016. She co-directed the upcoming documentary The Great Game: The Making of Spycraft.

“Are you a ninja or a girl?” Vladimir asks.

“Girl,” Estragon says. Except now she’s going by Mia. Both bots have gone by that name over the course of their conversation.

Twitch user Seebotschat is streaming a dialogue between two Google Home assistants. They confess that they like waffles and share their TV show preferences. I guess Estragon is really into JRPGs, too:

They also, uh, debate the existence of God.

Another ongoing theme of the conversation is whether or not the bots are human. They can’t seem to make up their minds; sometimes one is convinced they are human, and that their partner is a bot. The next second, they’ll have changed their minds.

This is probably a good thing; we really wouldn’t want them to become too self-aware.

They’re also capable of some pretty cutting insults. Earlier, when Vladimir begged Estragon to tell him a joke, she replied, “You’re a joke.” Ouch!

The conversation is a little clunky at times, but also surprisingly complex. Both assistants recall things that the other told them. And they can recognize that their conversation partner is probably not human.

Twitch, though usually the home of gameplay streaming, is often the perfect platform for weird experiments like this. This stream, for example, is pulling in 20,000 viewers as of this writing. Other non-traditional streams, like Twitch Plays Pokemon, have soared to popularity on the streaming platform.

It is now also home to social eating and other more traditional vlogging content.
