Could giving up bottled water buy you a holiday?

Savvy consumers could save enough money to buy a holiday

1. Water

It's good to stay hydrated, but buying a re-fillable bottle and keeping it topped up with tap water is a darn sight cheaper than buying a bottle of mineral water every day.

Giving up buying bottled water for three months means saving £135 – enough to afford seven nights in a four-star hotel in Malta, including flights (£121).

Holding out for six months saves £270 – enough for a week in a five-star hotel in Marrakech (£250).

2. Coffee

Many people count a daily caffeine fix as a necessary part of their routine. However, with take-away coffees averaging £2.45 a cup in the UK, the cost soon stacks up.

Fancy a four-star break to Tenerife? Giving up a daily coffee for three months would save £217, enough to buy seven nights accommodation plus flights (£215).

A six month break would pay for a week-long holiday in Gran Canaria at a five-star hotel, plus flights (£434).

Meanwhile, six months off the sauce would cover the cost of seven nights at a five-star in Madrid, including flights (£338).
