This is a very bittersweet issue considering that it's most likely Lee's final bow on the series. But at least Suicide Squad became the rare DC Rebirth comic to retain the same penciller for its entire opening arc. Sure, there are several inkers collaborating with Lee here, but that does little to diminish the visceral impact of his work or the impressive levels of detail. That said, there are some moments of weird disconnect between the writing and art, and scenes don't always transition from one to the next very cleanly. That could well be the result of what must have been a very rushed production schedule.
This issue is also billed as a Justice league vs. Suicide Squad tie-in issue. What that amounts to is that the backup story introduces Killer Frost to the team ahead of her prominent roles in the crossover and next year's Justice League of America. In other words, the backup is hardly an essential read. However, it is a solid examination of Caitlin Snow's personality and how she'll play off the various other members of the team. The tag-team combo of layout artist Giuseppe Camuncoli and finisher Francesco Mattina also proves to be a major draw. Camuncoli's refined storytelling pairs nicely with Mattina's bold, powerful figure work.
