The now-defunct UK-based company Wright’s Biscuits Limited of South Shields sent their curly-haired kid mascot, Mischief, to Mars in 1954 as illustrated in a series of cards.

This was one year after the failed Martian invasion of Earth as depicted in George Pal’s 1953 film “War of the Worlds”. Coincidence? I think not. It’s pretty clear Mischief was sent on a recon mission by then-Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Something happened to sci fi magazines after the early to mid-1950s. The cover art became flatter and less vibrant. Late Pulp Era Art admittedly lacked a lot of the absurdity of earlier covers, but it was also less interesting in my opinion.
