A Russian company called ASIKA (АСИКА) makes a Kel-Tec SUB-2000 copy called ASK-17-9. I am not sure whether it is a direct reverse-engineered copy or not. Nevertheless, what we can tell from the images is that at least most of the key features are copied.

This is a simple blowback operated carbine chambered in 9x19mm Luger. It feeds from standard Glock magazines. It is shown with a magazine restricted to 10 round capacity to be legal in Russian civilian market which it is designed for. The barrel length is 510mm (about 20″) which is probably chosen so to comply with the legal requirements, too. The ASIKA carbine weighs 1.2kg (2lb 10oz). It is said to cost 50,000 rubles (about $850) which is less than the Kel-Tec SUB-2000 in their market.

The overall layout and appearance, the stock, the folding mechanism, charging handle location … everything tells it is a copy. I wonder if they have licensed the design from Kel-Tec or is there a patent infringement involved. Unfortunately, the company has no website and I couldn’t find their contacts. Hopefully, their officials will read this article and contact us clarifying this issue. Once it happens, we’ll update this article with the official information.
