Frans and Dalal Preidel bought a dated studio in Manhattan planning to make every inch count. Before, left: At 800 square feet, it was the antithesis of their old home, a 2,500 square-foot loft. After, right: The new living area has an oak-plank floor, walnut shelves and a pull-down projector screen.
