New NVIDIA Shield TV Finally Pictured!

The NVIDIA Shield TV is a high-performance multimedia streaming device which can cope with 4K HDR content rather well and delivers three times more horsepower than the Apple TV 2015 edition. Not only that, the Shield TV’s Tegra X1 processor with 256 CUDA cores allows you to stream gorgeous PC games using the GeForce Now service or cast the latest titles from a GTX-powered PC. Despite this, the product rarely comes in stock and appears to be overshadowed by NVIDIA’s involvement in the Nintendo Switch. As a result, I presumed NVIDIA decided to focus on Nintendo’s latest console, which is essentially the new Shield TV under a different name. However, pictures have emerged which appear to show the redesigned controller for the Shield TV 2 with a more aggressive, smaller design.

Apparently, the base unit and remote will look the same while the internals has been upgraded to a Tegra-based Parker SoC. This means the device will take advantage of the Pascal 16nm FinFET manufacturing process, Denver 2 cores and have the same 256 CUDA cores as the original model. As a result, the device should be extremely powerful and really efficient. It’s looking increasingly likely that NVIDIA will discuss the Shield TV 2 during CES 2017 and could release it shortly after. Personally, I’m really looking forward to the presentation and providing live coverage as it happens.
