NES Classic Edition Sells For $5,000 On eBay [Updated]

This article is more than 7 years old.

Nintendo's new NES Classic Edition is sold out everywhere even though it just came out today. Finding one of the cheap, $60 retro consoles has become a matter of how much you're willing to spend.

Dishonest scalpers on eBay are hawking the micro-console for hundreds of dollars, but at least one eBay seller had the system listed for $4,999.

The NES Classic Edition is going for thousands of dollars on eBay.

The sad thing is, it sold. Somebody actually bought a $60 console with thirty old classic NES games for five grand. You could find the original NES and all those games for less than $5000 (though it might be hard to find them all very quickly or easily.)

But really, these are games that have been out for decades. Why not just wait a little while for more of the NES Classic Editions to go on sale? A little patience goes a long ways when the markup is this outrageous.

C'est la vie. A fool and his money are soon parted. You can hardly blame the scalpers with this old saying is proven true time and time again.

Oh, and if you're bummed out that this one sold, never fear! Here's another one for $5,000 ready to ship. And it's still in the original packaging!

You can read my review of the NES Classic Edition here.

Oh and Nintendo says there will be plenty of these, so don't be impatient. Take a deep breath and save your money:
