The correlation between the microwave radiation exposure and the semen routine of the radar operators

Abstract: Objectives:To explore the correlation between the microwave radiation exposure and the semen routine of the radar operators through the cross-sectional study and the routine sperm analysis.Methods:The subjects were divided into two groups (the radiation group and the control group).The radiation group was the radar operators who contacted with the microwave radiation directly,while the control group were those not.The information collected by questionnaire survey included length of working time,working place,daily working time,living habit (smoking,drinking),frequency of utilization of the phone,pregnancies and radiation exposure history.Besides,the semen samples were collected and analyzed to determine the sperm motility,sperm concentration and sperm count.Meanwhile,other factors affecting the sperm motility,sperm concentration,sperm count were determined by the correlation analysis and regression analysis.Results:Smoking and microwave radiation exposure were significant risk factors for the sperm motility.There was no correlation among the general demographic factors,living habit,microwave radiation exposure,length of working time and the sperm count.BMI and stay up late affected the sperm concentration,while microwave radiation exposure and length of working time had no influence on the sperm concentration.Conclusion:The microwave radiation exposure may decrease the sperm motility of the radar operators.However,sperm concentration and sperm count cannot be affected by the microwave radiation exposure.
