Tiger Shroff on his newest makeover, getting to work with his idol, Hrithik Roshan, and how Disha Patani keeps him on his toes

Filming his next, the action-packed Baaghi sequel, has been a double bonanza for Tiger Shroff. While the current schedule is in Goa, his favourite holiday destination, his new look, which he acquired by cramming in workouts in-between shots, has generated quite a buzz online.

In the coming months, the actor kicks off the sequel to Student of the Year, a film with his idol, Hrithik Roshan, as well as the Indian remake playing the Indian Rambo. There’s a lot to speak about, so over to Tiger:

■ What was your reaction to being offered a film with Hrithik Roshan?

I was sitting in front of my Rambo director, Siddharth (Anand), and the producer of this film and trying to act cool, I told them, “I’d love to hear the script and take it forward from there.” But in my heart I was like, “Forget the script, I’m already on board!” I wanted to jump up and start dancing, right there, right then!

I feel blessed to be working with my idol. There’s so much I look forward to, just being around Hrithik sir feels like a victory to me. I will have to give more than 100 per cent to the film because he’s so particular about everything. I’ll also have to work twice as hard just to stand in the same frame as him. Ufff, he’s on another level altogether!

■ You have also been getting rave reviews for your new macho look.

That’s thanks to my Baaghi 2 director Ahmed (Khan) sir and my producer Sajid (Nadiadwala) sir who wants to re-introduce me in a completely different light. That’s how the idea of buzzing my hair came along. I also had had to build more muscle for a certain portion in the film.

■ Were you open to the idea of getting rid of your Samson locks given how much you loved them?

(Laughs) No, I wasn’t open to the idea but I didn’t have much choice in the matter. I had to listen to my director and producer as they know best. It’s all about taking risks and luckily the feedback has been good, Even my father (Jackie Shroff ) loves my new look but my mother (Ayesha) took some time to get used to it. Now, she likes it and has asked me to retain it.

■ How did you manage to keep the makeover private for so long?

It was tough because we were shooting outdoors but our unit was strict about not letting anyone use their phones on the set. The security was tight and after a point even I was bored of the beanie. Thankfully, the look is out in the open now.

We are done with more than 50 per cent of the film and are going to shoot the climax soon. A few of the songs remain.

■ You are sharing space with rumoured girlfriend Disha Patani for the fi rst time on the big screen in Baaghi 2. Fans loved your chemistry in the single ‘Befikra’...

Yes, it’s a fresh pairing and we share a great rapport. She’s a hard-working, diligent actor and I get inspired just watching her. She’s also a great dancer so that keeps me on my toes during song shoots.

■ What’s next after Baaghi 2?

Early next year, I start Student of the Year 2. That’s the only film I’ve confirmed my dates for as of now. The rest will depend on how long this shoot takes. The Rambo shoot is scheduled to kick off towards the end of next year. The film with Hrithik sir will start before that.
