CHRISTMAS is peak period for watching TV, but your time may be better spent searching for a cheaper digital package.
Britons are spending hundreds of pounds more than they need each year by having the wrong TV and broadband package, new research shows.
Four out of 10 subscribers are unhappy with their current contract, but do not switch as they think it is too much hassle.
They are far more likely to switch utility supplier or car insurer, with barely one in five moving on in the last five years.

However, Freesat spokesperson Jennifer Elworthy said the effort is worthwhile: “You should not simply accept high prices because of the potential difficulty you might face when quitting your contract.”
Separate research shows that Britons are just as slow to change broadband supplier, even though they could save hundreds of pounds a year.

Dan Howdle, director of communications at broadband comparison site Cable.co.uk, said too many people have a misplaced sense of loyalty when it comes to getting the cheapest deals.

Its figures show that firms such as Direct Save Telecom or the Post Office currently offer the cheapest unlimited broadband deals in the UK.
Direct Save’s 18-month deal charges £19.95 a month including line rental, while the Post Office’s 18-month deal costs £19.99 although this rises to £26.99 after 12 months.
The cheapest deal from BT is currently £24.95 a month.
