compLexity Gaming upset the Kings of China at their first minor of the season

Without much difficulty, compLexity Gaming sweep through Newbee in the first game of group B at the StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 3.

After their second place finish at The International 7, Newbee received a direct invite to the StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 3. Looking to make up for their poor performance in the final of TI, the Chinese team would be hoping for some great results in their group. For compLexity Gaming, they had a great pre-season, winning the North America qualifier for StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 3 and the North American qualifier for The Perfect World Masters, but dropped out of the running for Dota PIT. The team would be looking to make their mark as they found themselves up against some of the biggest teams in Dota in Group B.

Game One

The North Americans found a great opening to find first blood just over a minute into the game and followed up with another kill in the top lane – with Kyle 'swindlemelonzz' Freedman on the Earthshaker showing some great movement around the map to help his team secure an early lead. By ten minutes, the game was all tied up at 4-4 but compLexity had a slight lead in the net worth. The Dire team continued to put pressure around the map, taking towers and finding decent skirmishes too.

Just after twenty minutes, coL begun to really hit their stride, finding constant kills on members of Newbee and taking control of the map. After claiming Roshan and the aegis a few moments later, coL moved to the high ground and claimed the barracks in the mid lane. With thirty minutes passed, the Dire team moved in to take down the bottom lane barracks too and Newbee had no choice but to call GG, giving coL game one of the series.

Game Two

After coL continued to bring players mid in an attempt to focus Chun 'SCCC' Song, their pressure paid off when they found a kill on Hong 'Faith' da Zeng to claim first blood, but Newbee found the trade and begun to open up the map with good rotations. By ten minutes, Newbee seemed to be in control of the game, but coL would not give up easily – finding good pick offs across the map to keep themselves in the game. As the game progressed, Newbee found themselves falling apart as coL pulled themselves together and begun to make a stand in the game.

As thirty minutes approached, suddenly Newbee found their footing again as they begun to pressure the map and claim objectives. However, coL shut it down with the perfect team fight, killing off the Radiant team and giving them access to the aegis too. But even with the aegis in hand, coL could not push any big objectives – and the game slowed down to a stalemate for ten minutes until the Dire team found a fantastic fight and looked toward the high ground.

With forty six minutes passed compLexity dropped the bottom lane barracks and looked ready to close out the game in due time. compLexity continued to batter the defenses of the Radiant base, claiming both the top and mid lane of barracks and with a 21k gold lead at fifty five minutes, the game was all but won for the Americans. After being completely outplayed, Newbee had no choice but to throw in the towel giving their American opponents a 2-0 win.

The next match today will be Natus Vincere versus Team Secret, a massive matchup in group B. You can catch all the action and information here.
