2017 Jeep Wrangler Recalled for Fuel Tank Issue
Approximately 448 Jeep Wranglers are affected by a new recall.
The American automaker has discovered a safety defect on the 2017 Jeep Wrangler, prompting a recall that will require a fuel tank inspection and possible replacement. The affected vehicles may have a fuel tank that was manufactured with a cracked or broken control valve, potentially allowing fuel to leak in the event of a rollover. The failure can also allow debris to enter the tank, or allow the tank to be overfilled.

The issue was first brought to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) attention on November 3, prompting a quick investigation and the eventual recall. The inquiry traced the failures to loose tooling on one of two parallel weld lines at supplier Kautex Textron’s manufacturing facility.
To resolve the issue, dealerships will inspect the fuel tank breather tube to determine if the valve has been damaged. The fuel tank and sending unit will be replaced if necessary. Affected owners should be notified starting January 2, 2017.
