Will NHS Sustainability and Transformation Plans work?

Before the 2015 general election, George Osborne promised the NHS in England a real-terms funding boost of £8bn per year by 2020, on the understanding that NHS bosses would also find £22bn worth of efficiency savings.

Since the new year, NHS managers have been drawing up what they are calling Sustainability and Transformation Plans to make these savings.

But some of the proposals are already running into local opposition, while Labour say they amount to huge cuts to the NHS.
