Did Jon Stewart just call "Fake News?"
Stewart made his weekly appearance on the Daily Show the same day of opening statements in Trump's criminal hush money trial, but it was the media's coverage of minute detail that the comedian took to task.
"At some point at this trial, something important is going to happen...but none of us are going to notice," Stewart said. "It's your classic 'Boy who called Wolf' — Blitzer!"
In his return to political satire, Stewart has skewered Republican Sen. Katie Britt's repeatedly mocked State of the Union rebuttal, Trump's Gettysburg tribute, and Tucker Carlson, to name just a few.
On Monday, Stewart ridiculed the cable news channels devoting hours of coverage to the Trump's every move in the courtroom. He also quipped a dismissed juror named Mark was his doppelgänger.
"Did I have jury duty?" Stewart asked.

Stewart took to task a recent segment with the courtroom sketch artist who admitted her image of Trump, in which he appears sleepy, was the result of her struggling to draw his eyes from a distance.
"Damnit woman!" Stewart roared. "Does Donald Trump have eyeballs or no?"
This led to a montage of reporters describing Trump's body language.
"He walked toward me with a mixture of desire, scorn and lets call it age-related confusion," Stewart mimicked. "It was then that I realized that this former president of the United States has a front butt."
However, Stewart's rant was interrupted by comedian Jessica Williams who accused the host of being an old man who hates fun.
"This Trump trial is like an open window in Grey Hound bus full of farts," she said. "Why you trying to close the window, Jon, why you trying to make us smell farts?"
Williams' case for obsessive media coverage of the trial — in which Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges that he falsified business records to cover up hush money payments paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election — as follows.
"An extremely gross old man-slash-former president might go to prison for banging a porn star and trying to pay her off," Williams declared. "And you don't want us to cover that s--- all day long? Jon, the first witness is named David Pecker."
Former President Donald Trump's recent comments about his hush money trial jury may have violated his gag order, according to a former judge.
Trump made the questionable comments about his panel of New York City jurors in an interview with John Fredericks on Real America's Voice Monday night.
"That jury was picked so fast," Trump said. "Ninety-five percent Democrats...It's a very unfair situation, that I can tell you."
Fredericks proceeded to call the trial a "scam Soviet manifesto trial going on in New York City" and argued that Trump was being politically persecuted and the justice system "perverted."
This interview, according to retired California Superior Court judge LaDoris Hazzard Cordell, may have poked the bear.

"I think he's got a problem," she said in an interview with CNN's Kaitlin Collins. "I don't know that that's accurate. He's just making it up."
Cordell argued Trump's statement about the jury's political leanings in itself didn't present a violation, but raised concerns about the message he sent.
"He's sending a message to his MAGA base that, who are not Democrats, that this is bad," Cordell explained. "That these folks — 95% of them — are bad. And so I think he has a big problem."
Trump faces a criminal contempt hearing Tuesday, but it will likely not to confront this specific comment as it doesn't fall into the framework of the initial request by prosecutors, the former judge said.
They would have file a future motion that specifically addresses it.
Merchan narrowed a gag order he imposed on the 45th president meant to bar him from speaking publicly about witnesses, court staff, jurors, as well as family members of both the judge and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg who brought the criminal case charging Trump with falsifying business records.
Should Trump be found to have violated the terms of the gag order, under New York law he can be held in contempt and committed “willful disobedience to [the court’s] lawful mandate,” which could cost him $1,000 per offense and up to 30 days in prison, or both.
Former President Donald Trump's most recent excuse about why hell has yet to break loose outside his criminal hush money trial was shredded Monday night by the New York Times reporter covering the case.
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman spoke with Anderson Cooper on CNN Monday night about the small number of of MAGA supporters who are holding court outside the Manhattan courtroom where Trump stands accused of falsifying business records to cover up hush money paid to a porn star.
"He has been hoping for something of a circus around his trial, but the reality is that only two to three dozen supporters over the last week have shown up," said Haberman, who has been covering the trial in person. "He looked very unhappy."
Cooper noted Trump has not been accompanied by family or friends, and must rely on the sole support of his legal team as District Attorney Alvin Bragg's prosecution forges forward.
"It has been striking that there's no family because I know that there was some discussion at some point in those couple of weeks about who would be with him in court," Haberman said. "He is by himself.

Haberman argued Trump wants a circus outside the court house to make up for the lack of familial support inside the courtroom.
"When he feels boosted — it's by his supporters," she explained.
The scant numbers of supporters stands in stark contrast to the actions taking place at Columbia University where students have created a tent encampment and faced arrests over their pro-Palestine protests.
Their protests caught the eye of Trump, who connected the uptown events to the security outside his downtown Manhattan courthouse.
"The area surrounding the Courthouse, in Downtown Manhattan, is closed up like a drum, with New York City’s Finest (Police) all over the place," Trump posted on TruthSocial. "Why not send some to Columbia to protect Jewish Students, and others...Republicans want the right to protest in front of the Courthouse, like everyone else!"
Haberman swiftly shut down Trump's suggestion that enhanced security linked to the Ivy League was to blame for the meager turnout outside his trial.
"Trump started trying to suggest on Truth Social that that's why the number has been so small, is that they're all being blocked" Haberman said. "But that's not it, it's that people are not showing up."
