Florence wants a dog so bad... Any dog. It doesn't matter if it is fat, or thin. Quite or wild. Florence would love to have a dog to play and take care of. Mom and dad don't think it is a good idea, so Florence dreams of finding a homeless dog. And the way sometimes happens, her dreams come true. One afternoon a sloppy dog appears in her own garden! His name is Mocha, and it is love at first sight...
At first Florence tries to hide Mocha in her bedroom, but mom finds out in no time. After that she boycotts her parents' posters in search for Mocha's owner. She changes the phone number, and even draws eyeglasses and a mustache in Mocha's picture in order to disguise him. But despite all her efforts Leon appears one day at Florence's door looking for his dog, and he is nothing like her imagined he would be. He is not a despicable person who frightens Mocha away. He is actually a sweet old man happy to find his dog, and Mocha evidently loves him. What is Florence suppose to do now?

Loving story which crushes your heart, but finally leaves you with a big smile in your face. Florence is like any other kid, and her feelings are the main theme in this book. She goes from hopeful to happy, and from nervous to sad, and even confused and guilty.
The illustrations are gorgeous, with an ideal balance between white and color, and focused in all those feelings and in Florence and Mocha relationship. Dreaming of Mocha is a book made for read and reread.

This adorable story is about a little girl named Florence. Florence's biggest wish is to have a dog. She isn't particular, any dog will do. Florence's mom and dad are worried about the mess and destruction that comes with a dog though. One day, when Florence has all but given up hope, a furry brown dog comes running into her yard. Insta-love! At first, Florence tries to hide Mocha (his name is on his collar)from her parent. Of course she is found out and her parents agree to keep the dog but only until the original owner shows up. Mocha becomes Florence' best friend, but what happens when and if the original owner does show up?

This story is very simple, yet very sweet. It is drawn simplistically, but with cute images that young children will understand and enjoy. It is definitely aimed at a very young audience as a read aloud book, I believe. The typography is very original and current. It flows beautifully with the illustrations. Florence is lovable and most children will instantly relate to her desire for a pet as a best friend.

I would definitely recommend this book to the preschool and younger crowd. It is simple, yet perfect!

Ages 4 & up. Florence is desperate for a dog, so she's thrilled when she finds a homeless dog wandering around the local park. Florence brings home the dog and bonds with it, but one day the little dog's owner shows up at her door! How will she let go of her new friend, Mocha?

The illustrations are very sweet. Mocha's playful personality comes across in the drawings. My favorite scenes were the ones when Florence is hiding the dog from her mother!

A sweet book for little animal lovers!

Florence wants a dog. Any dog will do. Her mom and dad have doubts about getting a dog. Florence really wants a dog. One day when she is swinging on her swing, a scruffy brown dog shows up in the garden. His name is Mocha. At first, Florence tries to hide Mocha in her bedroom, but Mom finds out. Dad and Mom say Mocha can stay until his owner is found. What will Florence do when Mocha's owner shows up?

This is the captivating tale of a little girl who wants a dog. It's a story for children four years old and up. The tale will pull at the heart strings. It does have a happily-ever-after ending. The illustrations are drawn and look like they are colored with crayons.

Awww. This is a sweet book, with a bit of a twist. A little girl wants a dog, and finds one, but it is owned by another. She thinks that it must be a bad guy to lose his dog, but he is a nice older man.

So, the little girl has to give up the dog, but they come by and visit.

Turns out the girl doesn't want a "dog" but "the" dog. Mocha.

And when her parents say she can have one, she is not as exciting as she might be.

Good story. It is not preaching about loss. It is not preaching about how you should take care of a dog. It is not a "learning" experience. It is just a story of a girl that wants a particular dog, that she has to share.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing this book for an honest review.

A Short but a sweet story about Florence, a cute little girl and her new found pet, 'Mocha'.
It's wonderful to see how a small book like this could pack so much of emotions in it.
Florence's yearning for a pet, her happiness when she finds one, the love, care and attention she showers on her pet, the pain she feels when she realizes that she might have to part her ways with Mocha, all of it were so adorable to read and the pictures too reflected these emotions pretty well. A heartwarming book indeed :)

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review!

All kids want pets, but I think Florence is even more dedicated to get one than most kids. Her parents don’t want one, for various good reasons, and so Florence goes to find one of her own, a dog no one wants. And thus she finds Mocha, but Mocha already has an owner.

Florence was a really cute kid, and I was cheering for her to get a pet. Of course, just taking Mocha to her home wasn’t all that right. Especially since Mocha has a collar, thus an owner. Even if Florence is small, she should have known this wasn’t an okay thing to do, and that she could have expected her parents to make posters. I did have a laugh at what she did to the posters. She really is dedicated.

The ending and all that happened there? It was really cute, however it feel like Leon was just doing what he did because he got tired of Florence being so overly attached to Mocha. It didn’t feel like he did it because he wanted to. Maybe that is just me, but it just didn’t feel right.

The art was pretty good, I loved how the dogs were drawn (all those different kinds). And it was kind of fun to see how little Florence was in comparison to the adults and other objects in life.

I would still recommend this one. It was still great fun to read it.

"Dreaming of Mocha" is the story of Florence who has always wanted a dog- any dog. She is playing at the park, when she finds a dog, Mocha, without an owner. She brings him home and plays with him, but her mother says they need to find his owner, so they put up posters. One day, Mocha's owner, an old man named Leon, arrives to take Mocha away. Now Florence's mother says that maybe they can get another dog, but Florence only wants Mocha. Luckily, Leon returns to tell Florence that she can play and help take care of Mocha! It's a cute story and the format is very pretty- the letters are written in a pretty (but easily readable script). The images are a little like sketch/watercolors, but very beautifully drawn. This is probably better for pre-school aged children than young toddlers who will appreciate the longer and more complex language and names. The art in this is really fantastic and of course it has a great happy ending! Please note that I received an ecopy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I can't really review this book properly because the epub I downloaded only had the illustrations! Only after reading some reviews on Goodreads I realised that it is supposed to have text. However, the illustrations went a long way in telling the story, which is a great thing! The illustrations were simple but very cute, and I'm sure young children will love them and fall in love with Mocha as much as Florence did.

All Florence wants is a dog. When she finds a friendly one named Mocha without an owner--but there is an owner on account of the dog tag--she's in heaven, even if her parents don't approve. This is a sweet story about a girl and a dog. There's a happy ending, too. The illustrations are fantastic. NetGalley and the publisher provided a copy.

Dreaming of Mocha is a picture book written by An Swerts and illustrated by Eline van Lindenhuizen. It is currently scheduled for release on November 15 2016. Florence wants a dog, any dog. A dog to take care of, to run with, and to play with. One day there’s a little dog in Florence’s garden. “Mocha” it says on his collar. Mocha and Florence become the best of friends. But then Mocha’s owner is suddenly at the door. And he is a very nice man. What will Florence do now?

Dreaming of Mocha is a wonderful little book with illustrations that will capture the interest and attention of readers while connecting them to the story of Florence. I like that children, and adults, can understand Florence's desire for a dog and the depth of which she wants one. The discovery of the escaped Mocha and the lessons Florence needs to learn about responsibilities, friendship, and doing the right thing are handled with a perfect balance of fun and sweetness. Florence's escapades of trying to keep Mocha hidden are great fun, and made me glad not to be the one cleaning up the dirty paw prints when all was said and done. My favorite part of the book is the lesson that not always getting what you want is not a tragedy, but might lead to different good things, like unexpected friendships.

Dreaming of Mocha is a funny, sweet, and entertaining picture book that will likely become a repeat request from many animal loving youngsters.

This is a cute story of a little girl who dreams of getting a dog. Eventually, she finds a lost dog and takes it home. The ending is really nice. A nice story for children who like dogs, but be prepared for them to ask for one afterward!

Despite what some of the other readers have said, yes this book does contain text and is not just a picture book.

A sweet story of a girl who desperately wants a dog. Her method of acquiring one is on the morally dubious (though adorable) side. I had a problem believing the ending, but the artwork is soft and cute, and the discovery of Mocha surprised me.

The funny pictures are perfectly matching the text. You don't need to do too much to make a child happy, just to leave him or her the chance to dream and enjoy his inner freedom, trust him and encourage its curious searches. A dog could be their best companion, as it teaches them to care about someone else than themselves and to share their space. The age target: 4 plus is also appropriate as it corresponds to a certain thresehold of mental and emotional evolution. The book is in fact beautiful enough for any age target and there is always something to learn from every single book.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy. This review may contain spoilers.

Florence wants a dog more than anything - so when she finds a scruffy little dog named Mocha, she's super excited to have a new best friend. There's just one problem - Mocha already has an owner.

This was an adorable book, I really liked the illustrations and fonts - they reminded me a lot of The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires, which I really liked. I especially loved the scene where . What I did not like was the ending. Like some other reviewers mentioned,

If it had shown the owner was getting too old and needed Florence to help take care of Mocha, perhaps it would have been more believable. Or if he had agreed that Florence would get to keep Mocha half of the week and he would have Mocha the other half. Or even if Mocha had ended up being a foster dog and the "owner" was actually trying to find Mocha a good home. And even better would have been Florence discovering she had the capacity to love another pup that was in need of love and a home, and still got to see Mocha every now and then too.

Think it will work? Mom has apprehensions as does dad. From their perspective dogs shed, leave dirty paw marks everywhere, and dig up gardens so my guess would be that Florence has little chance of obtaining one.

Then one day when she has given up all hope the unthinkable happens. She sees a stray dog in her very own garden. She is in love! His name is Mocha because it says so right on his collar. They become best of friends but Florence has to do the right thing and put up posters of the missing dog around the neighbourhood just in case Mocha does a home.

Mocha's owner, Leon, appears at the door and Florence is taken by surprise. Why he's not a villain who scared Mocha away but a sweet older gentleman who strokes and smiles at his beloved, found canine. Poor Florence is torn because although she's happy Leon found his dog she is heartbroken because she loves Mocha so and wants him all to herself. How can this dilemma be rectified? Can it be solved so that both Leon and Florence are happy with the results?

This heartwarming tale is all about how love conquers all. It is a perfect story for animal lovers everywhere. I highly recommend this book.

Dreaming About Mocha is a cute story about a little girl named Florence. Florence's greatest desire is to have a dog, any dog will do, even a dog that nobody else wants. Florence's mom and dad are worried about the mess and destruction that comes with a dog so they do not have one. One day, when Florence is playing in her backyard, she hears something in the bushes and out peeks a brown, furry dog. Florence hides the dog in her room and sneaks food from the table to feed him. When he makes a mess (muddy dog prints all over the house), mother follows the trail and finds Florence and the dog. That is when we find out that the dog has a collar and tag and his name is "Mocha". Florence takes great care of Mocha, playing with him and teaching him things, while Mom and Dad put up signs that they have found a dog. What will Florence do if the owner shows up? What if the owner wants him back? What if the owner is nice?

This story is very simple, yet very sweet. The illustrations are drawn very simply, but with cuter pictures that will attract the interest of children. Florence is lovable and most children will instantly relate to her desire for a pet. This book is aimed at children ages 4 and up and I believe that is a great fit. This would be a great read aloud in a kindergarten classroom to begin a discussion and theme on pets, taking care of animals, lost animals and more.

This book is beautifully put together, with wonderful illustrations, font choices, and word placement. Overall, however, I'm a little unsatisfied with the story, in which a child eventually gets what she wants, despite actively disobeying and being more than a little bratty.

You see, Florence REALLY wants a dog, but mom and dad will not let her have one. She reasons that if she could only find a stray, they would have to let her keep it. One day she does find a lost dog and attempts to hide him in her house until her parents find out. Her parents place posters all over the neighborhood to find the owner. Despite Florence's best efforts to vandalize the signs to prevent the owner from finding his dog, a kind elderly gentleman comes forward to claim his pet. When he realizes how emotionally attached Florence has gotten to his dog, he lets her have him, as long as she promises to visit.

I suppose it's a cute story about unexpected gifts, and presumably Florence makes a new friend in the elderly gentleman who will now be frequently visiting, but the book just didn't do it for me, and I won't be using it in any library programming.

'Dreaming of Mocha' by An Swerts with illustrations by Eline Van Lindenhuizen is an adorable picture book about what it's like to really want a dog in your life.

Florence wants a dog, but her parents have the usual objections. Florence would be happy with any dog in the world. When she finds a lost dog in the park, she decides to sneak it home and hope no one notices. When mom and dad find out, they let Florence keep her, but only until the real owner can be found. What will happen when Mocha's owner shows up?

The illustrations in the book are adorable, from Florence's short dark pigtails to Mocha's scruffy mutt look. The color palette is not too primary, but very cheerful. Florence is a great character as are the other adults in the book. The book is just cute and any little kid who wants a dog will love the story. The warning might be to parents who don't want a dog crazy kid like Florence.

What starts as an endearing story about a young girl's yearning for a dog and her good luck when she finds a "stray", turns into a predicament. Once the owner comes to get his dog back there seems to be no good way for the story to end as any conclusion will leave one person heartbroken. In the end, the sweet old man decides to let the girl keep the dog, as long as she agrees to bring Mocha over for visits. The ending felt a bit abrupt as the man randomly has a change of heart, though it's not explained why. The conclusion doesn't address the old man's well-established bond with the dog and why he would just give Mocha away like that. Does the girl's bond outweigh the man's bond with the dog? Is he sick or otherwise unable to care for the dog any longer? Though I felt an explanation of this decision would give it a more substantive message, the artwork and sweetness of the young girl made for a heartwarming story nonetheless.

The book "Dreaming of Mocha" is about a little girl named Florence who really wants a dog. She didn't mind which dog, as long as she had a dog. She was playing at the park and stumbled upon a dog named Mocha. She takes him home, but her mother said that they need to find Mocha's owner. They do this by putting up posters and waiting for the call. Mocha's owner finally comes to get him, and at this point Florence is sad because she finally had a dog, and now it is taken away from her. Her mother comforts her and says that they can get another dog, but she wants Mocha. The kind heart of the owner allows Florence to play and help take care of Mocha for a while.
I really liked this book, and I am sure that children of a certain age (preschoolers) will find much appreciation in reading it. I believe that young children will be engaged due to the creative format of the book, the fun style of writing and the adventure of finding a dog for Florence.

Florence wants a dog. She wants a dog so bad that she doesn't even care what kind of dog it is. When one follows her home, she knows that's HER dog. Even though the dog has a tag and a collar. Florence's parents decide that until they know who Mocha's owner is, she can stay with Florence.

Dreaming of Mocha is sweet. The illustrations are gorgeous and cute and perfect for this kind of a story. I like the twist on the typical lost/found pet story, but I don't think that this ended realistically. I think that A Dog Wearing Shoes by Sangmi Ko handles that situation a little better. They would be good companion books though.

I shared this story with my 4 year old, dog mad daughter, and she loved it! Young children will immediately connect with the endearing illustrations. Language is appropriate for use with younger children with a good balance between recognisable and challenging words for beginning readers. Transitions across the page were clear with even very young children able to track the progress of the story easily. This is a delightful story to introduce the value of pet ownership and highlight the special relationship that might exist between our children and animals.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

I thought this was a cute picture book. I shared this with my twins and they very much enjoyed it. The storyline was adorable. It had the "Pay it Forward" mentality at a young child's learning abilities. The little girl, Florence helps dind the owner of Mocha. He then rewards her kindness with a relationship and help with Mocha. My daughter kept "Oooh"-ing and ""Awww"-ing through this short yet cute read. I would recommend this to a parent and/or gifting for a small child.
