This new agreement marks the first time a live-action TV show has premiered in IMAX theaters. It's also the first time IMAX has ever helped finance a TV pilot and series. After a two-week run in theaters, Marvel's The Inhumans will air on ABC in the fall, complete with network-exclusive content.
The Inhumans is a Marvel Comics series from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, which was created back in 1965 and centers around a group of superhumans, each with their own unique set of powers. The upcoming TV adaptation promises to "explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family."
Inhumans have appeared on the TV show Agents of SHIELD, but our sources tell us that this new show will not be a spin-off of Agents of SHIELD.
Additionally, we've been told that Inhumans has no impact on the fate of Agents of SHIELD. No decision has been made as to whether Agents of SHIELD will return for a fifth season or not.
Marvel Studios was originally planning to release an Inhumans film on July 12, 2019 as part of its future MCU lineup, but Disney had its release date removed back in April.
UPDATE: According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Inhumans will be an eight-episode series, similar to Agent Carter's first season. Interestingly, the entire series will also be filmed with IMAX cameras, despite only the first two episodes currently announced as playing in IMAX theaters. Alex Osborn is a freelance writer for IGN.
