'Geronimo Stilton #18: "First to the Last Place on Earth"' by Geronimo Stilton with art by Ryan Jampole is my introduction to the world of Geronimo Stilton, but I had no problem getting involved in the characters or the story.
The story starts on Mouse Island, an island inhabited by mice. Geronimo is a reporter trying to report on the game, a subject he knows little about. He meets up with the rest of his team there: Trap, Trappy, Benjamin and Thea. They are about to be sent off on an adventure in 1910 to try and defeat the Pirate Cats. The Pirate Cats want to disrupt a race to the South Pole, and Geronimo is being sent to try to help Roald Amundsen to get to the South Pole. The Cats are trying to help Amundsen's rival, Robert Scott Falcon. They have to convince Amundsen to let them join the explanation, and they have to defeat the Pirate Cats along the way.
It's a perfect young reader series. If the others in the series are like this, it would also be a fun way to learn about history. There are funny things that happen as well as adventurous types of things. I enjoyed reading it. It reminded me of the adventure comics I used to read, like Uncle Scrooge.

Geronimo Stilton is recruited by the professor to travel with Amundsen to the South Pole because of a rumor that the pirate cats want to claim the discovery first. They travel back in time to 1910 for this expedition. They run across the pirate cats trying to mess up their mission by letting the dogs go loose and setting off an avalanche. The pirate cats don’t succeed, but Geronimo and his gang of friends and family were successful on their mission.
This is another book that I would have maybe felt a little better about reading had I read any of the earlier Stilton books. From what I can gather, there is always a mission like this, and it seems to travel in time, which would be an interesting aspect for kids. It feels kind of like The Magic School Bus series in that way to me, that it is educational yet entertaining. The pictures, while nicely done, seemed too detailed to have up to seven panels on a page…I think some detail got lost just because of the panel size. I also read this online, so maybe that was part of it.

A fun, quick story as all Geronimo Stilton books are. As with the main, written series I assumed these graphic novels could be read in any order, however I feel like I was missing some information. This was book 18 and there were a few characters I didn’t know, and some situations that seemed to have prior-knowledge. Looks like I’ll be going back to the first graphic novel and reading it through in order at some point!

My daughters love reading the Geronimo Stilton books, as do many of their classmates. We are also very fortunate that our town library has a lovely collection of the Geronimo Stilton graphic novels published by Papercutz. I was very excited about the opportunity to read the newest graphic novel- First to the Last Place on Earth.
This is the 18th entry in the series, and it follows a familiar formula: Geronimo is summoned by the Professor to travel back in time to thwart the Pirate Cats’ attempt to disrupt a major historical event. This time, the Cats are trying to prevent Roald Amundsen and his Norwegian expedition team from being the first to reach the South Pole. It’s up to Geronimo and his friends to stop the Cats, and ensure that Amundsen and his team reach the South Pole!
The illustrations are bright and colorful, and they capture the same frenzied energy as the regular novels. The illustrations are full of little details that bring the historical setting to life.
As a parent, I love these graphic novels because they help my girls learn about history. In particular, I love that many of the historical adventures feature more esoteric events/places- ones that my girls might not have been interested in learning about. Now that they have read this book, they know about the first successful expedition to the South Pole.
I would recommend First to the Last Place on Earth. This book will appeal to fans of Geronimo Stilton books, as well as fans of graphic novels. My girls loved reading this book, and they are looking forward to reading more Geronimo Stilton graphic novels.

They have to beat the awful Pirate Cats, who plan to sabotage the expedition and ruin history, so Geronimo will need to stay extra sharp!

The stories are original – no rehashes of the chapter books here! – and offer kids some interesting facts mixed in with their fun. Geronimo is insanely popular, as are all his spinoff titles; your intermediate and middle grader readers will gobble these up. You won’t even need to booktalk this book – just put it out and stand back.
Want to use Geronimo to promote your exploration titles? I don’t blame you. Talk up Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 Antarctic expedition; Matthew Henson’s exploration of the North Pole, and the lost Franklin expedition of 1845. Nomad Press’ Mysteries and Mayhem: Survival is a good book to talk up, and the I Survived series will always get kids listening and reading.

Geronimo Stilton and his gang are headed to the South Pole in 1911. Along the way they encounter a number of challenges including some pesky cats...
With the usual amount of adventure and history, this was a typical Geronimo Stilton book. As usual the story takes you through a nice story arc while capturing students in the delightful graphics.
This series continues to be a hit with the upper elementary school boys (a hard group to engage!) and as always I will continue to recommend this series to them!

This is another story of the amazing Geronimo Stilton, the mouse who always saves the day! In this adventure, they have to save the first expedition to the South Pole! Will they be able to save history once more, even with their tails freezing off?
This is once again an amazing comic book by Geronimo Stilton, I always loved his stories (and Thea's too)! The action is a little in this one, however, this is still an enjoyable read! For youngsters, but even for the children at heart!

I have always been a fan of Stilton but I particularly like the graphic novels because they are slightly older and a higher reading level. The illustrations are always colorful and on point. Plus I really like how they weave real events into the story. In this case it's the chase to be the first person to the South Pole. A great book got a hot summer day, but not the end of December. It's just too cold.

Geronimo & Thea Stilton fans: Stick to the books. The graphic novels or comic-styling of Geronimo Stilton #18: "First to the Last Place on Earth" and the recent Thea Stilton Graphic Novels #6 just don't match up to the fun to read charm of the chapter books. My children are die-hard Stilton cheese-heads and they were disappointed with these.

I think that the actual book series starring Geronimo Stilton is fun and charming and easy to read. This graphic novel version had very tiny print and the "historical fiction" idea was SUPER heavy on the fiction, light on the actual factual history... I can't believe how highly this is rated! I'm obsessed with Antarctica and I so wish this had been better.
