Abstract: Objective : To discuss the effect of automation of outpatient pharmacy on the specific service of pharmacist to patients. Methods: The prescription information in the first Tuesday of every months from May to August in 2015 were selected and investigated for the impact of automatic reform of pharmacy on the waiting time of patients,drug dispensing quality, and drug management etc. Results: After automation of outpatient pharmacy, the mean waiting time of patients in daylight was 10.5 ~ 12.5 min, while that at rush hour was 14.5 ~ 16.5 min. Meanwhile, the procedure of drug dispensing, stocktaking and management of valid day for drugs was further optimized. Conclusion:The automation of outpatient pharmacy realized the changing of drug dispensing from "patients wait for drugs" into"drugs wait for patients", enhanced the work efficiency of pharmacists, and protected the medication safety.
