Why 2016 Was Dwayne Johnson's Best Year Yet

After announcing his return to Wrestlemania, Dwayne made his way back to the wrestling ring on an episode of WWE Raw in Miami and proved that he was still the People's Champ. Not only did he show off his insane muscles and signature charm, but his appearance was all about entertaining the fans and giving them what they want.

In addition to appearing in Central Intelligence and lending his voice to Disney's Moana, Dwayne also played Spencer Strasmore on HBO's Ballers.

Oh yeah!

Ever since the two costarred in Central Intelligence in June, the public has gotten to see more of Dwayne and Kevin's close bond. Not only did they constantly poke fun at each other on set and during press interviews, but they kept the hilarious moments coming while filming their new movie, Jumanji.

While filming Jumanji in October, Dwayne uploaded a video of Kevin poking fun at him as he walked alongside his car, writing, "His final 'Rock impression' at the end kills me . . . Luv this dude to death."

In April, Dwayne hosted the ceremony in LA alongside his pal Kevin. The actor had the support of his daughter Simone Alexandra and ex-wife Dany Garcia.

The 44-year-old actor released his first YouTube video in July. A month later, he posted a clip explaining that he wanted to create a platform that was "fun and exciting" and where he could "connect" with fans "in ways that making movies doesn't allow me to do."

Not only did we get to see more of Dwayne and longtime girlfriend Lauren Hashian, but we also got to see more of his relationship with his daughters Simone and Jasmine, ex-wife Dany Garcia, and mom Ata.

Dwayne went all out for baby Jasmine's first Halloween. In October, the doting father shared a video of himself getting down to Zay Hilfiger and Zayion McCall's hit "Juju on That Beat" while wearing a giant Pikachu costume. In the clip, Jasmine is all smiles and giggles as she watches her dad groove — that is, until he stops. He captioned the video, "Pikachu is baby Jasmine's FAVORITE character. So, for Halloween me and @laurenhashianofficial decided the real life Pikachu was gonna come to the house for a visit. What Pikachu didn't know was that Jazzy would start crying when he stopped dancing and demanded he continue to shake his tail with a loud 'EH!' So, Pikachu danced over.. and over.. and over.. and over... and over.. again." At the end of the clip, The Rock removes the Pikachu head, revealing his sweaty face, and tells the camera, "What daddies do."

In efforts to get us more pumped up for Moana, Dwayne posted an Instagram video of him and Lin-Manuel Miranda singing "Gaston" from Beauty and the Beast in October, writing, "'In a wrestling match nobody BITES like Gaston!' Having fun w/ my dude Lin Manuel Miranda and my ALL TIME favorite Disney character - GASTON 💪🏾 #OnSet #PromotingOurMovie #MOANA THIS THANKSGIVING." Shortly after, Disney released a musical clip from the movie that highlights the moment Moana meets the demigod Maui.

After weeks of speculation, it was announced that Dwayne received the coveted title during an episode of the Today show in November. Even though the honor was long overdue, Dwayne handled the whole thing graciously.

In September, Dwayne took a break from filming Jumanji to celebrate the world premiere of the trailer for Moana. During an appearance on Good Morning America, The Rock paid tribute to his Polynesian roots by performing a tribal dance known as the Samoan Slap Dance with a pair of Hawaiian locals. After whipping off his shirt and dousing himself with baby oil, Dwayne showed off his smooth moves in the middle of the beach at 3 a.m., and, needless to say, he did not disappoint.
