Following on from my ‘mindfulness of tribe’ post… I’ve felt guided to commit to 60 days of Instagram live videos. Videos in which I’ll say how I feel.

This is revolutionary for me because I reckon my truth’s gonner out, no mater how much a part of me would like to hide the ‘negative’ bits.
However they may look.
I’ve had breakthroughs, recently, when I’ve been more truthfully 'me’ than ever before and it’s rocked. There’ve also been times where my mouths felt locked… wanting to say what I mean and not knowing how.
Bleugh.
And I’m over it.
I reckon this 60 day project will bring a shift. One way or another.
My being ‘whole’; no longer hiding parts of me, is the path to growing my wellbeing. This. Much. I. Know.
Whoop.
So here goes.

Sensation is one thing and thought is another. I may think that pain equals suffering. But this is not so. The sensation of pain is there, and the thought saying ‘ouch this is a bad feeling’ is separate from it.

We can notice them and allow them to be simply what they are - energy moving in a certain way.

So instead of noticing pain and thinking ‘yoooou are awful and need you to be gone!’, we can

Breathe

See the sensation and

Respond differently.

We can respond with allowing.
.
Which
.
(And here’s the magic)
.
Allows it to shift.
.
The more we do this - the more we meditate, see our experiences clearly and allow them to be…
.
The more we see the sensations as
what they actually are.
.
So what is pain? Well, you tell me. How does it feel to you, sweet one?
.
My experience is that is internal energetic movement with a particular quality. Maybe a burning sensation has a fizzy, fast quality. Maybe an ache seems more still?
.
In any case, seeing this is dynamite for our life.
.
The only reason pain remains in the body is because we resent it. Resentment is resistance; resistance to internal movement.
.
When we allow energy to be, however, it moves. When it moves, it flows. When it flows, it changes. The internal sculptures of our human landscape flow like the wind and

Holding on to resentments feels hooooorible in my body. This much I know. But sometimes I can’t stop doing it. (‘Mughhfftzzzp!’). I set the intention to forgive myself and others; set the intention to see our innocence… and still the resentments... — Holding on to resentments feels hooooorible in my body. This much I know. I feel blocked, angry and lost; confused and ashamed and frustrated and then 'poof’ (✨☺️🙂🍃) 'ahhhh’’ something shifts, love flows through and it’s So. Very. Beautiful. Also relevant to note - I reckon - is that this shift happened yesterday after i allowed rage to flow through me, first. Not that I threw the rage onto anyone else… but I did see it dance its rosy red moves through my cells for a while, and then the shift happened and…. mmmm in came love.

So I sat, today, next to the person I’ve wanted to forgive more than anyone, and felt a glowing love for them flowing from me (and round me) like heat from a log fire. This picture is a celebration of that. #delight.

I am compelled by some deep hunger of the soul, driven by a desire that will not leave me alone to have the energy in my body flowing as unencumbered as possible. This, essentially, is why I spend hours in meditation every day. This is why I care for my body and mind as attentively as one would for a tiny, beautiful, kitten.
.
And why am I compelled in this way? The thing is, free flowing energy in our bodies is all we’re ever after. (#Truth). And here’s why; because whatever we’re pursuing, it’s in the in order to feel joy. And free-flowing energy within us is What Joy Is.
.
Every emotion has an energetic make up within us and joy/love is what we feel when our energy flows at its freest. That’s when we feel healthy. That’s when we’re lit up and ecstatic to be alive.
.
This feeling is what I’m striving for when I pick up the cookie (mmmmmm) break it in two so the chocolate oozes out (mmmmmmmmmmm)… and eat it.
.
And so, now, I sometimes cut out the middle-man (the cookie) (sorry cookie) and go straight for the energy flow. Sit by bum down in meditation, or go walk in nature and let the divine light of all that is course my electric-veins like magic.

Mmmmmmmm.
.
No matter what’s gone down in my day, no matter what my head says I need or want or lack; when I get mindful and clear enough for my mind to release and the energy to flow, then mmmmm. All is well. And all shall be well. And I know,

Yup, we’re mixing things up and combining two most wondrous things to make magic; those things being performance technique and mindfulness.
Truth is, much of acting is essentially mindfulness practice. When we... — Acting + Mindfulness = Awesome ✨
Yup, we’re mixing things up and combining two most wondrous things to make magic; those things being performance technique and mindfulness.
Truth is, much of acting is essentially mindfulness practice. When we endeavour to keep our attention on our scene partner (for that’s where the inspiration is… ); when we endeavour to release thoughts that say ‘what’s my line what’s my line (?!!) do I look okay? AM I FEELING ENOUGH?!’ and to Come. Back. To. The. Moment… to be Here, let go and allow a scene to unfold… this is us practicing mindfulness.
This, combined with mindfulness’ capacity to help us with performance nerves, vocal clarity and a myriad of other elements of acting, makes for a combination that is wondrous.
So myself and the lovely Daniel Bradford of @playwithfiremcr and @hopestudiosmcr are combining these techniques with our own wonder and making awesomeness.
If you’re a performer (or not) and would like to bring some mindfulness into your life, I invite you to bring attention to your breath. For all of us - and, perhaps, especially performers - it’s easy to be hard on ourselves. To push for more perfection or berate ourselves for something that isn’t 'going right’. But here’s the thing - all is well honey, and you’re doing your best. Standing on stage/in rehearsal/in front of a camera can feel highly pressurised but it’ll be a whole lot easier if you allow yourself to be how you are. Ie human. Breathe sweetheart; just breathe. Notice that you’re breathing. That you’re a human who inhales and exhales… who feels and worries and has joy, pain and delight. Let yourself be all that you are in this Now and bring your attention to your breath. The breath will always be with you; always a tool you can use to bring yourself back to the moment where you can allow yourself to know it’s okay. For all really is okay #andbreathe

I’m appearing on Instagram, via live video, every day for 60 days. Simply popping up on your screen to share... — Today is day 13 of my 60 day Instagram Truth Quest. ‘Ahaaa, what is this wondrous sounding quest?’ I hear you ask. Well ☺️ good question.
I’m appearing on Instagram, via live video, every day for 60 days. Simply popping up on your screen to share what’s moving through me at that moment. The intention being to create more space for myself to Be Me in the presence of others. To grow my capacity to let all my inner rivers; my feelings and rages and love and ‘mughfftzzzpts!’ do their things… even when I’m with people.
And why?
Because my priority is flow. My priority is self love and allowing. My priority is integrity. This is where peace and joy and health and loin burning energy come from. So, quite frankly, everything else can go do as it pleases.
I’ll be me, thank you. With you, with me, at work, at play, on the bus, in the park, in the cafes (obvs). I will feel what I feel.

So today I sit with my self criticism (because that’s what’s here). Yes self compassion is beautiful, yes mindfulness is awe-inspiring but (and) the big ol’ central piece of both those things is Letting
What
Is
Be.
Including being critical. Perhaps the most startling paradox of human existence is that in order for things to evolve I must first allow What Is
To
Be.
So here I sit with my self criticism. Endeavour to be present with the part that ticks me off, scolds and shakes me about for anything and everything.
This part of me did appear (whenever she first appeared… ) to keep me safe, after all.
Only doing her best, she is.
As is the rest of me.
Doing beautifully and wonderfully and perfectly.
With my self criticism. With my blame and fear and love and joy and
All.
Of.
It.

Yesterday at my five rhythms dance class, I heard someone say they’d felt ‘vulnerable and fragile and, simultaneously, strong and amazing’ and the words resounded right down to my small toe.
.
It doesn’t feel right for me to teach from a place of 'I’m fixed now, so I’ll teach you’ … and I’m wanting to stand in the truth of my life. Truth being that it’s a process filled with strength AND fear; and by allowing the fear to be, it adds to my stability. Life’s a thing I’m journeying in; dancing and flying and falling and crying and laughing one moment to the next. And I’ve never been healthier or more resilient.
.
Over and over I hear a gentle whisper to 'share what’s true’. Not just the happy smiley bits, but the rest of my life. I look at my Instagram feed and it’s rosy and bright; which represents much of my world but not all of it.
.
Ahh maaaan’ (scoffs my ego) 'come on Ellie! You may as well go do some reality T.V. show, if you want to share your truth (#vom)’.
.
Let’s be clear about this - I don’t think there’s anything wrong with reality tv - each to their own. But it’s not my thing… so, I ask myself… what IS my thing? Elizabeth Gilbert, Gabrielle Bernstein, Marianne Williamson… they’re my thing; they’re teachers who’ve shared stories from their lives and helped me heal. And at the core of my wanting to show my true self sits heart glowing joy; a sense of vitality and freedom and the desire to help others. So let’s do this 😌🙃😀😮 however it may look.
