Dates and theaters have been set for Amélie, A New Musical, with Hamilton star and Tony nominee Philipa Soo in the title role. Following its 2015 world premiere at the Berkeley Rep, the show will now begin a pre-Broadway run December 4 at Los Angeles’ Ahmanson Theatre, where it will run through January 15. It will move to Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre, currently home to the Lincoln Center Theater revival of Falsettos, beginning previews March 9 and opening April 3, 2017. Co-starring with Soo is Adam Chanler-Berat.
The adaptation of the five-time Academy Award-nominated 2001 French film has a book by Craig Lucas (An American in Paris), music by Daniel Messé (Hem) and lyrics by Nathan Tysen (Tuck Everlasting) and Daniel Messé. Tony winner Pam MacKinnon (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Clybourne Park) directs, with musical staging and choreography by Sam Pinkleton. The show will be produced by Harbor Entertainment, Triptyk Studios and Spencer Ross.
