Abstract: Throughout the history of spaceflight numerous studies showed the effects of spaceflight environment on circadian rhythm and sleep-wake cycle.Different degree of circadian desynchronization, sleep loss, and insomnia occurred in some flight astronauts.Such risk factors might lead to performance decrements and adverse health outcomes. This paper reviewed the research progress in the effects of spaceflight environment on sleepwake pattern and circadian rhythm, providing basis for further understanding adverse health outcomes resulting from sleep loss and circadian desynchronization, and finding some more effective countermeasures to ensure astronauts health and performance during spaceflight.
