Walking into Abigail and Henri‘s Crown Heights apartment, it’s apparent they’ve got great style. Abbie is a gallery manager in Manhattan and Henri is a painter — their creative abilities have influenced a design aesthetic that’s a mix of mid-century furniture and Henri’s contemporary art. And they definitely know how to take care of some amazing house plants (look out for orchids!).

The apartment is a spacious and sunny two-bedroom, with an open living and dining room area. Although not usually know for being spacious, the galley kitchen provides plenty of room. Henri uses the second bedroom as his painting studio.

But, of course, we cannot forget the most important inhabitants of this home. Abbie and Henri’s cats, Jerry and Chip, love to lounge around the apartment and apparently love to pose for photo shoots, too!

Our Style: Vintage furniture, contemporary art, and plants.

Inspiration: The homes we grew up in in Los Angeles, California. We both grew up in very different parts of the city, but were raised by parents who loved art and design, and instilled that in us.

Favorite Element: Abigail – Our orchids. Henri – The hardwood floors and books.

Biggest Challenge: Keeping the couch and chairs cat hair free.

What Friends Say: We like to host, and I think our friends enjoy hanging out here whether it’s a New Years Eve party, or just a casual Friday night.

Biggest Embarrassment: Abigail – The kitchen cabinets, I’d love to paint them a lighter color. Henri – The cream wall color.

Proudest DIY: The radiator covers. We got our cat Chip when he was a kitten, and we were always nervous about him getting stuck in the radiators.

Biggest Indulgence: Shipping our credenza out from LA. We had been looking for one in New York and weren’t able to find something that was affordable and was what we wanted. Henri grew up with this credenza in his bedroom, and we knew it was perfect, so we just went for it.

Best Advice: Abigail – Take your time, wait for the right thing. Henri – Skip the cheap stuff and buy solid furniture that will last you.

Dream Sources: Maybe not a specific source, but to be able to go limitless mid-century furniture shopping in Palm Springs.

For plants we go to a local store called Natty Garden on Washington and Dean in Brooklyn, and also frequent two particular plant stores on Grand in China Town. Our fiddle leaf is from Kings County Nursery. For pots, terra cotta can really be purchased anywhere, but we also love the pots from Lowes and often find great ones at thrift stores.
