Gilas Pilipinas repels Qatar in the FIBA Asia Cup

Gilas Pilipinas scored an 80-74 win over Qatar on Sunday to end the preliminary stage of the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup with a perfect record.

Already assured of the top spot in Group B and a bye into the quarterfinal round, Gilas still showed tremendous fighting heart as it played without Filipino-German center Christian Standhardinger and lost Calvin Abueva to injury in the second period.

Matthew Wright scored 25 points, serving as the zone-buster for most of the game against the tight Qatari defense.

With its top seeding, Gilas awaits the winner of the Japan-South Korea playoff on Monday. --JST, GMA News
