We’re less than a month away from the Biggest Party of the Summer, so it’s not too surprising WWE is using television this week to get ready for their Aug. 20 pay-per-view (PPV). We already knew tomorrow’s SmackDown will set up the WWE title match for Brooklyn, and it looks like the Aug. 1 205 Live will also book a championship match for Barclays.
That according to a couple reports from PWInsider focused on Vince McMahon and team’s plans for tonight and tomorrow. With the cruiserweights, the site is saying a #1 contender match will be booked for 205 Live, setting Ariya Daivari against Akira Tozawa for a PPV shot at Neville’s belt. This is the next step in an angle which has featured all three men since Neville defeated Titus O’Neil’s client at Great Balls of Fire.
A story which has been running even longer and that many expected to culminate at SummerSlam is supposedly happening tonight, per Insider. Big Cass vs. Big Show will go down on Raw in Pittsburgh - probably as another building block in the larger program of Cass and Enzo Amore breaking up and Show putting Cass over as WWE’s new giant. With a crowded card filling up even for a four hour-plus show on Aug. 20, however, we may see that play out on television rather than PPV, though, so this could be key.
New #1 contender Bayley will also face Women’s champ Alexa Bliss’ friend Nia Jax on Raw, according to the report. Whether the Hugster’s friend Sasha Banks gets involved after being beated by her bestie for the SummerSlam shot should be worth watching...
