A BABY boy has died and another child has been seriously injured after they were attacked by a dog.

Emergency services were called to an address in Harwich Road, Colchester, at 3.10pm on Thursday.

The wounded boy is said to be suffering from 'life-changing injuries'.

A woman was also taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

A statement on the Facebook page of Essex police read: "A child has died and two other people have been injured after they were bitten by a dog at a property in Colchester.

Three people were found injured and were all taken to hospital for treatment.

A baby boy was sadly pronounced dead."

Chief Inspector Elliot Judge said: "This is a tragic incident that Essex Police are investigating.

"Specially trained officers are providing support to the family at this difficult time.

"We will not be making any further statement at this time and would ask the media to respect the family’s privacy”.

The dog has been removed from the property.
