Casting Scam Hits Georgia’s Film Industry

Date:

A casting scam is targeting actors in Georgia’s film industry.

Recently, two casting companies took to social media to warn actors about an alleged casting call scam.

New Life Casting, the extras casting company behind Ant-Man and Al Pacino’s Hangman, took to Facebook to warn aspiring actors that a company is calling people saying they work for them.

Warning..it has come to our attention that people are getting calls from a company telling them that they work with New Life Casting. I understand it is a company called Nine Nine…anyway, we do not work with them, for them nor do they work for us. Unless you get a call or email from myself, Jackie, Tracy or Rosanne, please disregard.

The sad part is that, New Life Casting is not alone. Chad Darnell Casting, the extras casting director behind Magic Mike XXL,  took to Facebook to announce that someone has stolen his identity on Facebook and is trying to lure aspiring actors to work for him.

Darnell explains, “So, apparently there is a fake Chad Darnell out there trying to set up interviews to be my casting assistant. I AM NOT. I am currently using interns from Savannah Technical College through the Georgia Film Academy.

Darnell added, “If you are in communication with someone who can’t even spell my last name right, let me know so I can end this person.”

But, the scam is going beyond Georgia. Someone is allegedly using casting director April Webster’s name to lure people to a hotel suite in Texas for a special casting session.

Sharing from beloved friend and casting goddess April Webster.

Dear All, Pass this along. Someone is using my name (unless there is another April Webster working out of Texas who is a CD).

They are calling actresses who have sent in there pictures etc to a specific site and letting the know they got the job and they should come to The Candlewood Suites In Texas City on November 2.That their agents would get the call. with the details I am concerned about this. I have called the suites . They have no reservation with any of the names that were part of this Pepsi-co casting call. Please let people you know that this is not under my auspices and should investigate.
Thanks
