Stick to a Weekly Routine to Add Flexibility to Your Schedule

Having a daily routine helps you develop good habits and stick to your goals. If you have a hectic schedule, though, forcing certain types of work into every day can be counterproductive. Instead, build a weekly schedule.

As productivity author and podcaster David Kadavy explains, many of your productive tasks can be sorted into a weekly schedule, rather than a daily one. Sure, you want to have a daily routine for brushing your teeth, but if you work a five day work week, you might want to schedule creative work earlier on a Monday or Tuesday, and leave the boring stuff for Friday when you’re ready to be done.

This way, I work like a perpetual productivity machine. I’ve organized my time to work with my rhythms, and maximize my creative output, without neglecting the other details that need to get done.

A well-designed weekly routine kills procrastination. There is no 24-hour day — there is only now. If I don’t use Monday morning for my best creative work, I will have missed my chance for the week. So, I have to do it now.

How you structure your weekly routine may depend on the type of work you do and how flexible your schedule is. Unfortunately, you can’t always schedule time to have creative ideas or to have the energy for work, but if you have a weekly rhythm, you can organize your work to match it.
