- Kate Shepherd received the vandalised preserve in her Tesco delivery
- The Seville marmalade had been altered to read 'Jimmy Saville'
- Tesco have apologised to Kate but she says she took it 'with a pinch of salt'
A supermarket has been forced to apologise after it delivered a jar of Seville marmalade which had its name altered to read 'Jimmy Saville'.
Bar owner Kate Shepherd, of County Durham, was left shocked when she noticed the jar had been vandalised.
Before the preserve made its way to Kate it had someone had used black marked to scrawl the name of the notorious paedophile on the label of the jar.
Kate Shepherd was shocked to find that her Mackays Seville marmalade had been defaced to read 'Jimmy Saville' marmalade when it was delivered by Tesco
Kate had her shopping delivered from the Tesco Extra store in Durham and spotted the disgraced DJ's name as she was putting her goods away.
She later tweeted: 'So I had my @tesco shopping delivered and someone has written on my marmalade... @tesco staff must have a lot of time on their hands.'
A spokesperson for the supermarket giant has apologised to Kate for the unexplained addition to her shopping.
Tesco have issued an apology to Kate and offered her a full refund on her shop and will be investigating the incident further
In a statement she said: 'This is clearly unacceptable and we are investigating how this could have happened.
'We have apologised to Ms Shepherd, and offered her a full refund and a voucher off her next shop with Tesco.'
Speaking to ITV news Kate added: 'I took it with a pinch of salt which is lucky. My concern would be if it landed in someone else's bag, it could have caused great offence.'
