Horror as mutilated horse found dead in London field

A MUTILATED horse has been found dead following a horrific attack.

The animal had parts cut off and others 'dismembered' after it was already dead.  

The horse was discovered in the field in Upminster in East London last Saturday after police officers received reports of a dead animal.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 10:15hrs on Saturday, 29 October, to reports of a mutilated horse found dead on land off of St Mary's Lane, Upminster.

"The horse was dead when police arrived at the scene. A vet was called to examine the animal. 

"On initial inspection of the vet, it appears that the horse was mutilated after it died. Examinations are still underway to ascertain cause of death."

There has not yet been any arrests.

A member of the Cranham Safer Neighbourhoods team said: "The horse was found on a farm on St Mary's lane, on the borders of the Metropolitan and Essex police areas.

"We aren't releasing any more details at this time."

A women from local stables Classical Dressage said the police had warned her to check the fencing on her paddocks.

She said: "I didn't really know anything about it until the police came round but they didn't give me many details. 

"They gave me some advice and suggested I had a look at my fencing."

She added: "There are some horses owned by gypsies along the lane so maybe it was one of those."
