BEIJING: China has come in strong defence of Pakistan in the face of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s accusations and said ‘the world community must recognise Pakistan’s great sacrifices’.

The remarks of the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying came when asked about Modi’s characterisation of Pakistan at the BRICS Summit in Goa.

She said China is opposed to linking any country to terrorism.

She stated that on counter-terrorism, China’s position is consistent. “It is the same way we oppose linking terrorism with any specific country or religion,” the spokesperson was reported by the Economic Times as saying.

“We oppose terrorism in all forms and we believe that international concerted efforts are needed to ensure stability and security of all countries.”

“We oppose linking terrorism with any specific ethnicity or religion. This is our long-standing position. China and Pakistan are all-weather friends.”

“Everyone knows that India and Pakistan are victims of terrorism. Pakistan has made huge efforts and great sacrifices in fighting terrorism. I think the international community should respect this,” Hua added.

China and Pakistan consider each other “all-weather friends” and have close diplomatic, economic and security ties.

“As per the problem between India and Pakistan, both the two countries are close neighbours of China. We truly hope that they can resolve these differences in a peaceful way through dialogue and consultation, so that India and Pakistan relations can develop. This serves the interest of the two countries and the region,” she said.
