Wings Gaming mark their first LAN victory after TI6

Nanyang Cruise Cup is the first tournament for Wings Gaming after The International 6, and it marked their first title secured.

Held onboard of Sapphire Prices, a luxurious cruise ship, Nanyang Cruise Cup featured four Chinese teams battling over the weekend for the ¥300,000 (~$45,000) prize pool. Newbee and Wings Gaming were the two main attractions of the tournament, but as the event was hosted on local servers and broadcast via satellite it was impossible to be watched live by the non-Chinese viewers.

As expected, Newbee and Wings Gaming had no problems reaching the grand finals, Wings taking a 2-0 victory over Invictus Gaming and then Newbee defeating Invictus Gaming Vitality with the same score. The grand finals were held in a best-of-three series where Wings Gaming did what they know best and won the tournament with a final 2-1 score and 15 different heroes picked. In contrast, Newbee insisted on an infest bomb tactic for all three games. For the first game of the series they went with Lifestealer - Axe, in the second game it was Lifestealer - Storm Spirit, a combo that actually pushed the series to a decisive game three. The last game featured the Lifestealer - Batrider combo for Newbee, but Wings’ Morphling - Invoker split push strategy worked perfectly.

With the Nanyang Cruise Cup trophy secured, Wings Gaming will head over to Montreal, Canada, next month to compete in the Northern Arena BEAT Invitational. The event is scheduled to take place from 11th to 14th of November at the Bell Centre.
