Update: Twitter Is Changing the Way You Tweet

twitter-updates-blog-header-01

Twitter recently released a new wave of changes to their social network. If you are new to Twitter or just a little #confused, here’s a list of some of the most recent changes, and what they mean for you and your tweets.

More Room to Tweet

Ever have a lot to say in a tweet, but found yourself without much room to say it? Twitter is still keeping its 140 character limitation for tweets, however, what’s changing is what counts towards that limit. Mentioning people (@name) and media attachments (like photos, GIFs, videos, and polls) no longer count – they don’t use up your valuable characters. This means you’ll have even more space to come up with those clever tweets.

Say Goodbye to .@name

The days of having to “.@” mention people are gone. Now if you want to mention someone in a tweet and also have your visitors see that tweet in your news feed just write a new tweet that begins with a username. It’s as simple as that. If you want it to be seen by all of your followers, you’ll be able to retweet yourself.

Retweet and Quote Yourself

By the way, you can now retweet yourself. “But I already tweeted that”, you say, “Why in the world would I want to retweet myself?!” Well, besides sharing your @replies with your followers, you can retweet something you tweeted earlier that you didn’t feel got the attention it deserved.

This might seem like a lot to absorb at once, but don’t sweat it too much. Just get out there and start using some of these new features. Twitter is an experience and the more you use it, the more enjoyable it will become. #newtweets @hibuUS
