Former Lock Haven wrestler Chance Marsteller remains in counseling following his arrest on multiple charges in late August, his attorney said Monday.

Ryan Gardner told PennLive that Marsteller, the nation's No. 1 recruit in 2014, has completed the in-patient part of his treatment and is now an outpatient.

Gardner said Marsteller, who is free on $50,000 bail, is living with his parents in New Park in York County.

Marsteller was scheduled for a formal court arraignment Monday in Clinton County court but waived that. Jury selection is scheduled for Jan. 20.

Marsteller was a four-time undefeated state champ from Kennard-Dale High School.

On Aug. 25, Lock Haven police said they were called to a university-owned apartment for reports of a naked man banging on doors. Police said they found Marsteller clad in a towel, and took him into custody after he dropped it twice, exposing his genitals.

He was charged with six counts each of aggravated and simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of open lewdness, according to the arrest report.

Last month, Clinton County district attorney David Strouse added a charge of public drunkenness.

Strouse said Marsteller had cocaine and marijuana in his system and a blood alcohol level of more than three times the legal limit (.274) when he was arrested.

There has been no offer of a plea agreement because the district attorney's office is awaiting the results of Marsteller's treatment, Gardner said.

Marsteller dropped out of Lock Haven University to focus on his issues and treatment, Gardner said.

Marsteller is one of five wrestlers in Pennsylvania history to win four state championships with an unblemished record (166-0).

He transferred to Lock Haven in May from Oklahoma State, where he was suspended for a violation of team rules and opted to leave the program. "Just disappointed in my own actions," Marsteller told PennLive for an Aug. 24 story about the Oklahoma State situation.

Marsteller, who won the last of his state titles at 170 pounds, struggled with the drop to 157 pounds at Oklahoma State. He had a 14-4 record wrestling unattached as a true freshman and went 6-5 as a redshirt freshman before OSU coach John Smith suspended him.

A day after his arrest, Lock Haven spokesman Doug Spatafore told PennLive that Marsteller was "no longer associated" with the university's wrestling program.

According to the arrest report, Marsteller threatened police, yelled obscenities and banged his head on the partition between the front and back seats of the police cruiser.

Police said they used pepper spray to get him to stop and instead of taking Marsteller to the Clinton County Correctional Facility, he was transported to Lock Haven Hospital for detoxification.

According to the incident report, Marsteller was handcuffed behind his back and lunged at a hospital staff member trying to obtain information.

Officers said they attempted to restrain Marsteller, but he repeatedly banged his head on the floor, causing injuries to his nose and face and profuse bleeding.

According to the report, he kicked, elbowed and head-butted the officers and pulled vigorously on his handcuffs while attempting to stand. He is accused of spitting blood into one of the officer's eyes, the report states.

Police said Marsteller continued to act violently until the effects of several doses of a tranquilizing agent took effect. The incident in the hospital lasted nearly an hour, police said.
