For the doughnuts: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Whisk the flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder and salt together in a medium bowl.
Beat the pumpkin puree, sugar, vegetable oil, butter, vanilla and eggs and together in another large bowl until smooth.
Add the flour mixture to the pumpkin mixture and beat until just combined.
Fill three 6-cup nonstick doughnut pans with the batter so that each mold is almost full. Smooth the tops with a moistened finger.
Bake the doughnuts until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 15 minutes. Invert the doughnuts onto a cooling rack.
For the topping: Stir the sugar and cinnamon together in a shallow bowl. Working one at a time, brush the doughnuts all over with butter, then dip them in the cinnamon sugar to coat. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Betty Lundin 10/13/2024 I almost followed the recipe 😂 added 2tablespoons pumpkin spice plus a dash of cinnamon, substituted buttermilk for the oil, added 1/2 cup brown sugar and about 1 Tablespoon of pure maple syrup, bake 17 minutes for best results. Very fluffy and nice texture…Happy Fall 🍁🎃

Made recipe as is. Very tasty! Will definitely make again.
I used a metal pan for one set of donuts and a silicone pan for the others and it baked 15 minutes. I filled almost to the top. It made 9 full size donuts and 12 smaller donuts.

How can you make these without a donut pan? I see some made them in a 9x13 pan! How long would you cook for? Any help in much appreciated 😊

Ohmygosh! Made these exactly as the recipe but found they didn't need any extra topping. Light, fluffy--simply an excellent donut. Brushed my non-stick donut pans with butter and just twisted each out of the pan. My husband loved them!

This recipe is definitely a keeper! I don't own a donut pan. I baked them in a brownie pan. I substituteed with gluten-free flour. They rose very nicely. I made them for a football watch party. We had to sample one while they were still warm. These are absolutely delicious! Thank you, Valarie, for sharing this wonderful fall recipe!

I made these today as it's snowing outside and was looking for something sweet and comforting for a fall day. Easy prep, made as written, but once the donuts removed from the mold, I brushed the top with melted butter and put them in the air fry setting at 415 degrees for 3 min. Gives a nice subtle crunch to the outside, but soft inside. After removing from the air fryer, and cool enough to handle, I dipped the top in cinnamon sugar. Delicious!

Was disappointed. They ended up a little gummy and not very flavorful. Mostly taste like the cinnamon sugar they are coated in. Not much pumpkin flavor. Maybe they needed to be baked a little longer (I did bake longer than directions). Will go back to the baked apple cider donuts that I love and turn out amazing every time.
