The GlobalPort Batang Pier saw their 30-point lead reduced to just five before holding on to defeat the Phoenix Fuelmasters, 100-91, on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup.

New import Murphy Holloway had an outstanding debut, scoring 29 points with 26 rebounds in over 41 minutes on the floor. The Ole Miss standout also shot a high 52 percent from the field, hitting 12 of his 23 attempts.

Terrence Romeo, meanwhile, paced the locals with 21 points, while his backcourt buddy Stanley Pringle added 11 markers. Ryan Arana, meanwhile, was efficient with 13 points.

The Fuel Masters dilligently chipped away at the lead, with an RJ Jazul trey slashing the lead to just five with 2:56 left, 88-83.

A Holloway slam and a Romeo layup re-established GlobalPort's nine-point edge, leaving Phoenix 32 seconds to send the game to extra time, as Eugene Phelps strung four straight.

Romeo, however, converted once more from the paint, as GlobalPort put the game out of reach.

Eugene Phelps ahd 32 points and 17 rebounds for Phoenix, but got little help from the rest of his teammates.

JC Intal and Joseph Eriobu tallied 11 each off the bench, while RJ Jazul scored 10, but the whole team converted on just 35 percent from the field. — BAP, GMA News
