Cindy Crawford's daughter, Kaia Gerber, is new model of the moment

The fashion drums are pounding and they're telegraphing the name of a familiar-looking beauty who could be the season's model of the moment as New York Fashion Week gets underway Thursday.

Who is Kaia Gerber and doesn't she look like a mini-me Cindy Crawford? Yes, she does, and that's because she's the daughter of the 1990s supermodel Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber.

Call her "one of the fashion industry’s favorite new faces," as Teen Vogue did in its August issue.  She's also an actress, with a role in TV movie Sister Cities in 2016.

And she is still in high school. 

Kaia turned 16 on Sept. 3 and like many teens she was thrilled to get her driver's license, judging from her mother's congratulatory picture on her Instagram.

But the best present may be her eligibility to work the runways for the first time at NYFW, which she is preparing to do judging by the flurry of interviews she and her mother have done in recent months, plus what Kaia and her modeling agency are posting on social media.

There was that picture she posted on Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday with another supermodel, Karlie Kloss, in matching white robes of the kind familiar on fashion shoots. 

And Kloss' reciprocal tweet predicted Kaia would "take her first NYFW and the world by storm." 

“I really look up to Karlie,” Kaia told Teen Vogue. “She’s broken all the rules of what a model should be and uses her platform to benefit others. Plus, we’ve met a bunch of times, and she’s one of the nicest people ever."

There was the tweet Thursday from her agency, IMG Modeling, which featured Kaia as the first in its video of a dozen "new faces" gracing the runways this season.

Which designers will get Kaia's services in New York? The betting is on Marc Jacobs, perhaps exclusively, as she is already the face of the designer’s beauty brand, including his fragrance, Daisy, her first perfume campaign.

"Her beauty, her charm, her incredible personality and her professional work ethic proved the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” Jacobs gushed to Teen Vogue.

And don't forget her 1.6 million followers on Instagram. "Can u tell we're related?' she wrote next to a picture of herself with her mother.

Although she's still a neophyte, Kaia got her first taste of modeling when she was just 10 as a poster girl for Young Versace. "Baby supermodel," Vogue called her at the time.

In more recent years, Kaia's modeling career seemed inevitable as she grew tall (5-foot-9), lithe and graceful, with Crawford's chestnut hair and dark eyes. Brother Presley, 17, shares the family looks and is a working model, too.

Crawford's advice to both her kids: "The advice I give them is more about reminders — like be on time, be prepared, be professional, don’t be on your phone, talk to people, and have fun. … They both have good heads on their shoulders, and I’m not worried,” Crawford said in an interview with Vanity Fair in April. 

With her parents' good genes and mom's good advice, Kaia is prepared for the flash and flashbulbs of fashion on a global scale.

She says mom taught her "it’s important to be nice to everyone, to learn everyone’s names (on set) no matter if it’s the photographer or the assistant,” she told People in May. “I’ve gone to set with her and seen her do it, and she leads by example.”
