A new attraction is earning "high" praise at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence.

A 760-foot long zip line has been installed at the south end of the zoo and will be open for public rides starting Friday, Sept. 1st.

"We are a zoo that always likes to add interesting things and make the experience more fun for the guests," said Director of Operations Ron Patalano.

It's the first zip line of its kind in Rhode Island. On Thursday, zoo employees were given rides to test it out.

"Oh my God, it was thrilling!" said Susan Kataja.

Patalano shared similar sentiments.

"This is a very hot ride around the region," Patalano said. "We thought it was a perfect location, perfect spot, and we always like to be the first to do something."

The zip line rises 115 feet above the swan boat pond at the park. A ride costs $12 for zoo patrons and $10 for zoo members.

The zoo will also offer a special night time ride schedule during the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, which runs from Oct. 5 through Nov. 5. The cost for that ride will be $15.

At the end of each ride, a camera snaps a photo of the riders and the pictures are for sale.

"I think people will have a great time on it," said Kataja.

Beginning next summer, the zip line will be available to the general public and not just zoo patrons.
