Louisville suspends cheerleaders over election night posts

The University of Louisville has suspended multiple cheerleaders for comments they made on social media after Tuesday night's election, school officials confirmed.

The news was first reported by WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky.

Louisville officials said Thursday that cheerleader Brynn Baker and others have been placed under investigation for their election night posts. The school's head spirit coach and spirit coordinator, Todd Sharp, released a statement to WHAS-TV, saying he was "very troubled and concerned about the exchanges that took place in social media late last evening involving one or more of our student athletes."

"We have worked very hard to build a successful and incredibly diverse spirit program here at the University," Sharp said in the statement. "These conversations over the last day are not an accurate representation of our program, our values, or our coaching staff. We are investigating this matter and will take appropriate action upon the completion of such."

WHAS-TV reported two of the tweets, which Sharp confirmed were sent by Baker. In the tweets, Baker told an unidentified person to "stfu about racism, sexism, whateverism." She then sent another tweet that said, "You act like you came off a boat."

Baker's account has since been deleted.

None of the cheerleaders has been dismissed from the team, according to WHAS-TV.

Cardinals linebacker James Hearns reacted to Baker's tweets Wednesday on his Twitter account.

No. 6 Louisville plays Wake Forest on Saturday.
