Derrick Rose was cleared in the gang rape his former girlfriend in a unanimous decision by a eight-person jury on Wednesday - a huge victory in the $21.5 million dollar legal battle that dragged on for over a year.

But Rose nearly screwed up his win by attempting to get one of the jurors  kicked off the trial just hours before the panel reached their verdict

According to reports, the jurors - six men and two women - were unanimous in their decision on the first vote. They explained that 'nothing added up' and therefore it was a quick discussion before they read their verdict in the court room ... after only hours of deliberation

Rose's lawyer told the press following the verdict being read 'We're just very relieved that the system worked. We had a jury of 7 white people and 1 Hispanic who exonerated 3 black men. It was fantastic.'

However, hours before the verdict was reached Rose filed a motion to kick off Juror No. 6 from the trial ... explaining he had cause to excuse the jury member

The motion was sealed from the public and the court records do not reveal the reason the NBA star demanded Juror No. 6 be removed from the trial. The judge shut down Rose's motion in his private chambers only hours before the panel reached their verdict

A federal civil case can have anywhere from six to twelve jurors and the entire panel must agree on their decision.

The woman at the center of the case accused Rose and his friends of gang raping her at her apartment back in 2013. She filed suit demanding $21.5 million dollars in damages

Defense lawyers depicted the woman as a liar who tried to sway jurors through her tears to get at Rose's fortune. They claimed she was angry he had dumped her and that she had set him up to make money.

The NBA star fired back at the lawsuit saying it was nothing more than a shameless money grab. Rose denied all allegations that he raped his ex-girlfriend and said she gave him and his buddies consent to have sex.

Moments after the verdict was read, both Deadspin and Los Angeles Times reporter Joel Rubin posted photos of Rose, 28, smiling as he posed for photos with jurors.

Rose declined to comment but his attorney Mark Baute said outside the courtroom: 'The system worked.'

The woman's lawyer meanwhile called the men 'sexual deviants' and said they conspired to rape her after she was drunk and incapable of consenting to sex.

The 30-year-old woman at the center of the case, who is a currently a college student, described the scene when she woke up the morning after the alleged sexual assault, which occurred on August 27, 2013, in court papers.

'As soon as I woke up, I was dressed, I had my dress on from the previous night and I never go to sleep with what I'm wearing. I always prepare myself first to go to sleep,' said Jane Doe.

'So I had the dress and it was up on my neck and I felt very wet and slippery. There was lubricant all over my bed and on my legs. Everything was tossed in my bed. There was a condom wrapper and a closed one not used.'

She then added: 'That was just shocking to see all that, almost like I didn't want to believe it.'

In her initial complaint, which was filed in August 2015, the alleged victim said that she and Rose had been dating for two years prior to the alleged assault.

The pair met 'at a party he hosted which she was invited to by mutual friends' in October 2011 during the NBA lockout, and soon after 'Rose invited Jane to dinner at his agent's house.'

The alleged victim claims in court papers that soon after the two started dating Rose gave her a laptop and 'started asking Jane to perform masturbatory acts while on Skype, which made her comfortable.'

She said in her court filing that when she told Rose she did not feel want to participate in these acts he 'would get upset and berate her for refusing.'

Then, Rose allegedly began to ask if they could 'involve others in their sex life, in particular, strippers and other couples.'

The alleged victim claims that she 'justified these requests' believing that 'the sex they had was unsatisfactory and not exciting for Rose because she had hangups and was relatively less sexually expressive than most.'

One of these requests to have a couple join the two allegedly came in June of 2013 when Rose texted the alleged victim after flying into Los Angeles.

According to the alleged victim's complaint, Rose said to her: 'Come over her and join me my guy Randall [Hampton] and his chick. But I mean let's all do something ... I need that.'

The alleged victim said she refused this request, but continued to keep in contact with Rose.

She also claims that soon after she learned from a friend that 'Defendant Rose and Defendant Hampton tried to simultaneously have sex with another woman who was incapacitated and did not desire to do so, but was able to escape.'

Rose allegedly grew tired however of the alleged victim not wanting to participate in group sex she claims in court papers, and texted her in July of 2013; 'We good but I'm not messing wit u like that anymore.'

Then, on August 26, 2013, Rose invited the alleged victim to his Beverly Hills home, where she arrived soon after with a friend.

She began drinking with the three defendants and alleges that is when they 'placed an unknown drug' in her drink.

Soon after, the alleged victim claims she 'began picking up burning gemstones from a fireplace and tossing them,' not noticing the heat and the damage that was being done to her hands despite her friend's pleas for her to stop.

Her friend was not drugged according to court papers, and at one point in the evening Allen allegedly said to the woman: 'F*** talking, take your clothes off.'

When she refused, he began yelling: 'What are you here for then' and told her to 'get the f*** out.'

The friend refused to leave however without the alleged victim and the pair split a cab home.

The alleged victim claims that 'she threw up in the bathroom and could barely make it to her bed, lying down with her clothes and shoes still on.'

It was soon after this she claims that Rose and the other two defendants entered her apartment.

The alleged victim has few memories of what happened next, but claims she said to the men: 'Why are you guys in here, where's my roommate?'

In her complaint she states that she then recalls 'Rose walking towards her bed, lifting her dress and penetrating her.'

At another point during the night she 'remembers Rose lying by her side close to her face while the other two guys were having sex with her simultaneously.'

The final memory she had was of 'Hampton pinning her arms down on either side of her head while she was on her back and feeling as if she could not breathe because of his weight on top of her.'

The men then rushed out of the apartment soon after according to the complaint, though the alleged victim claims that her roommate returned home at some point to find one of the men in their living room.

That man allegedly tried to force his way into her bedroom but she was able to slam shut the door.

A month later, the alleged victim claims that Allen called her and said that he 'was not aware that Jane was drugged that night.'

He then said of Rose and Hampton, according to the alleged victim' complaint: ''This is what they do all the time, especially when they are in LA: the girls in LA ask them to have group sex with them because they recognize them as NBA players.'

Rose said in court papers that the woman was alert during and after they had sex, and even cleaned the room when they were finished having relations.

His legal team stated that the alleged victim only went to police after failing 'at multiple attempts to get money from Mr. Rose.'

Among the nine causes of action for which the alleged victim was seeking monetary relief were sexual battery, battery, trespassing, conspiracy to trespass and gender violence.
